Purposes

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints strives continually to improve service levels and efficiencies, manage risks, and ensure adequate internal controls across all operations.

The Management Control Auditor (MCA) function is part of the Church’s self-improvement, risk management, and self-corrective mechanism to improve service, operations, and controls.

The MCA is a senior position that reports to the Area Controller, works closely with the Director for Temporal Affairs and other Area Managers, and is a strong candidate for any of these roles.

Responsibilities

In collaboration with senior leaders, identify the top priorities for improving operations or adequacy of internal controls that align with the priorities of the area presidency and government regulations

Working with senior leaders, develop the Annual Risk Action Plan, for actions individual managers will take during the year to reduce significant enterprise risks to the Church.

Learn about all Church operations including operational activities, customers served, key objectives, current performance levels and gaps, top challenges, resources needed, and technologies used

Gather and analyze operational and financial data, compliance requirements, best practices, and use data to identify issues to address or opportunities to explore

Develop an annual MCA project plan including the scope of the work, schedules, milestones, and required resources to meet the proposed objectives for all annual MCA projects

Determine and communicate the work product or results that will be delivered upon project completion

Develop and carry out communications (e.g. presentations) to the area’s senior leaders, employees, and internal and external project stakeholders

Conduct any required training classes for employees at a variety of levels

Provide respectful feedback to senior leadership and all other employees, to gain their respect and support.

Work tactfully to support management in solving identified issues by inspiring faster adoption, greater utilization, and higher proficiency by employees regarding new ways of operating as a result of the project outcomes

Monitor results post implementation to ensure that the solution is working

Qualifications

Possess curiosity and ability to understand diverse business operations and market best practices

Excellent organizational, leadership and problem-solving skills, and the capability tomanage competing priorities, accomplish work under time pressure and deliver meaningful results with minimal supervision.

  • Mature interpersonal skills with strong emotional intelligence; experience initiating and cultivating key relationships;
  • team player; persuasive in spurring management to constructive action

    Self-starter who embraces personal accountability; feels a keen sense of ownership for the quality of work performed and the results achieved

    Ability to conceptualize, analyze, and effectively communicate complex issues orally and in writing; English fluency required

    Strong quantitative reasoning and analysis, including the use of analytical and presentation software

    In-depth management consulting, auditing, risk management or other broad business experience

    CPA, CMA, CISA, CFE, and / or CIA or equivalent certifications

    Bachelor’s degree, preferably in finance or accounting, MBA helpful
