Coordinator of Collective Action Program

The Opportunity

The SAC is seeking a highly respected industry professional with the experience and mindset to drive large-scale, industry-wide environmental and social sustainability programs that aims to deliver exponential positive impacts to people and environment in the value chain.

The Coordinator of Collective Action will play a key role in collaborating with members and external organizations to drive systematic change required to transform the apparel, footwear and textile industry as a whole.

Our two aspirational objectives include :

  • Protect Human Rights - The SAC enables and supports workers’ rights, safety and livelihoods by 2025
  • Combat Climate Change - SAC brand, retailer and manufacturer members achieve a 45% GHG emissions reduction in line with Science Based Targets by 2030 against a 2020 baseline.
  • For the right candidate, the Coordinator of Collective Action role poses a unique opportunity to facilitate and support the execution of Collective Action Program, through researching & preparing key data insights from the Higg suite of tools and other data sources in order to inform the type(s) of collective action required to implement across the entire global industry in the near- and long-term.

    The ideal candidate will be an experienced and organized coordinator who is passionate in environmental and social sustainability, experienced and confident in organizing internal and external stakeholders meetings, educating and supporting members to enhance their sustainability performance in the apparel, footwear, and textile industry.

    The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) was founded by a group of sustainability leaders from the global apparel and footwear industry who recognize addressing our current social and environmental challenges are both a business imperative and an opportunity.

    Through multi-stakeholder engagement, the SAC seeks to lead the industry toward a shared vision of sustainability built upon a common approach for measuring and evaluating apparel and footwear product sustainability performance that spotlights opportunities for technological innovation and priorities for action.

    The Higg Index, our common measurement tool, is currently in use by thousands of brands, retailers, and facilities within our industry.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Manager and Director of Collective Action Program to support planning, execution and monitoring SAC’s collective action strategy and programs
  • In collaboration with Higg Index Team, perform research and analysis from Higg Index data to form key recommendations
  • Support creation of surveys, presentation decks, training materials development, and other collateral materials as needed
  • In collaboration with global membership team, respond to members enquiries and update communication platform on a regular basis
  • Organize and prepare internal and external meeting agenda & logistics for Collective Action Strategic Council and other learning clubs activities.
  • Consolidate and analyze key impact data on a regular basis to inform leadership and the Board on the progress of Collective Action Program
  • Engage with member manufacturers and SAC Board / Staff to ensure and promote the concept of equal partnership between Manufacturers, Brands & Retailers across workstreams and member engagement.
  • Track industry news, trends and stories on various sustainability topics including but not limited to science based targets, carbon reduction opportunities, water stewardship, various collective action programs in our sector or other industries
  • Education, Experience and Skills Requirements

    The ideal candidate has :

  • 2+ years of work experience in the apparel, footwear, or textiles industries, including direct experience developing and implementing environmental and / or social sustainability programs and practices with suppliers in production countries;
  • Passion for environmental and social sustainability and has the ability to inspire others;
  • Previous sustainability consulting experience in the manufacturing sector preferred;
  • Familiar with the environmental and social sustainability issues & relevant legislations pertaining to the textile, apparel and footwear sector, such as cleaner production, carbon reduction and science based targets, energy and water efficiency management, waste management and recycling;
  • Experience in organizing, convening, facilitating conversations with members and a diverse group of stakeholders;
  • Good written and verbal communications skills; can articulate clearly your responses in meetings and through emails;
  • Good computing and data analysis skills
  • Good teamwork and interpersonal skills, willing to work in an agile way across different functions and different project groups
  • Organized, attention to detail, and ability to execute deliverables in a timely manner
  • Comfortable working remotely on international time zones
  • Bachelor in environmental science / environmental & chemical engineering / environmental technology / environmental management / sustainability related degrees required, Masters Preferred.
  • Compensation and Location

    The Sustainable Apparel Coalition offers a compensation package. The SAC’s members and partners are global organizations, and as such, the SAC staff sometimes work early or late hours.

    This is a full-time position based in the APAC region and preferably in Hong Kong.
