Purpose of the role
The Analyst will join an existing Global Risk Arbitrage Portfolio Management team managing $1.5bn in assets. They will assist the Portfolio Manager in making investments decisions and their focus with be on Asia Risk Arb.
Their specific duties will include carrying out detailed proprietary research on complex Merger Arbitrage situations. Responsibilities include generating and presenting trade ideas, responding to news flow and analyzing opportunities under the direction of the Portfolio Manager.
The Analyst will be an active member of the investment team, working alongside senior professionals on the investment floor with full opportunity to contribute throughout the investment cycle.
Location : Hong Kong
Carry out detailed proprietary research on complex Merger Arbitrage situations on a global basis
Focus on complex antitrust and regulatory reviews in Asia (e.g. China and Australia)
Establish and develop relationships with CEOs / CFOs of global companies, lawyers, bankers and regulators
Participate in due diligence meetings with more senior colleagues, attend conferences, with a view to develop long term relationships with counterparties
Assist in monitoring existing investment portfolios, including reviewing company reporting
English / Mandarin fluency
Strong knowledge of the Asia Risk Arb markets with 5+ years of Risk Arb specific experience.
Experience at global investment bank, global law firm or leading buy / sell side research house
Excellent legal, analytical and interpersonal skills
Able to handle due diligence interviews with relevant counterparties
Very strong and relevant academic qualifications
Be a self-starter , able to take initiative in contributing to the firm whilst at the same time operating harmoniously and constructively within the team
