Group Legal Adviser

The Job :

The Group Legal Adviser is responsible for providing legal advisory services on legal risk, compliance and regulatory matters in the consumer financing, financial and payment services, banking and insurance segments.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to be part of a dynamic business. Key responsibilities include :

  • provide legal support on conduct of business activities to financial services and insurance businesses in Hong Kong;
  • identify legal and regulatory risks in all matters relating on banking, payments, lending and insurance related services, and to provide legal guidance to help development of new products and to prevent and mitigate risks for related projects;
  • draft, review and support negotiation of customer-facing agreements, terms and conditions and other product and service materials and documentation;
  • draft, review and support contractual negotiations with business partners on a wide range of commercial agreements as well as Government and private sector tender documents, for examples, license agreements, sales and distributions agreements, master services agreements, supply and purchasing agreements, agency and reseller agreements, as well as e-commerce and insurance related agreement, etc.;
  • participate in the development of marketing campaigns and to draft and review related marketing materials and advice on related legal implications such as the Trade Description Ordinance, lending, payment and insurance regulations, data transfer / privacy, IP rights etc.;
  • draft and review internal policies and manuals relating to the relevant businesses units; and
  • carry out duties consistent with strategic plans and directives as determined by management.
  • The successful candidate will have :

  • qualified lawyer with a minimum of 8 years of post-qualification legal experience in an internationally recognized jurisdiction, with excellent drafting and negotiating skills;
  • experience in the banking and payments sector is essential; in-house experience is also essential; experience in FinTech and insurance is preferred;
  • excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese is required. Cantonese is essential.
  • excellent communication skills, people oriented, self-driven and able to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to engage with other business units and stakeholders across the Group is important;
  • ability to work proactively and independently with minimal supervision under tight deadlines; and
  • exceptional drafting and organizational skills, attention to detail, mature attitude and able to multi-tasks.
