The Communications executive role sits within a strategic, high pace and proactive international communications function, which is responsible for positioning, promoting and protecting the reputation via the media and internal communications across EMEA, Asia Pacific and Latin America for BNY Mellon Investment Management and its investment firms.
The role predominantly supports the Vice President of APAC IM Communications and the Head of International Communications, as well as working with the communications team globally.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Proactive media relations support :
Support the Vice President of APAC IM Communications on proactively pitching stories and interviews to media to generate targeted coverage
Support the Vice President of APAC IM Communications to drive media content, which includes (but not be limited to) the drafting and distributing of proactive and reactive investment and market commentaries, as well as press releases and by-line articles to target media.
Co-ordinate contributed articles with key spokespeople to ensure we are in the right articles within the right target media.
Research and organise creative and innovative media events with guidance from the Vice President of APAC IM Communications.
Continue to have strong direct relationships with online and print media focusing mostly on institutional investment trades and national business / markets press across the region.
Build strong relationships and network with colleagues, internal stakeholders / clients and key media.
Support in the development of campaigns aligned to key priorities.
Provide support with any crisis and issues management, where appropriate.
Media monitoring & coverage reporting / analysis :
Actively and regularly monitor the media including newspapers, magazines, journals, broadcasts, newswires, the web and blogs, for opportunities for our spokespeople and to develop as an expert within the business on investment management industry news.
Identify interesting and relevant news articles, to circulate to key stakeholders
Collate, analyse and evaluate media coverage for APAC and connect with the global reporting lead, as well as prepare and manage half yearly and annual internal reporting that is shared with senior management and internal clients.
Digital expertise :
Actively help support the APAC digital programme for IM communications by closely liaising with the digital marketing team, specifically regarding LinkedIn.
PR agency management :
Liaise with PR agencies across the region for IM Communications including sharing / editing content, organizing calls and brainstorms to ensure we receive value add.
Additional / administration :
Co-ordinate the logistics of international press conferences, where appropriate
Responsible for collating weekly internal coverage / activity report for internal stakeholders.
Support the team with administrative duties and keep the processes & procedure manual and internal projects document up to date.
TECHNICAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Degree educated
Three to five years’ experience in PR and communications, either in-house or agency side
Investment management or financial communications experience preferred
Excellent written and verbal skills in Mandarin and English
Proactive, enthusiastic, and team-spirited, logical, with high attention to detail
Must be able to work within a team with a collaborative attitude, as well as independently
Ability to work in an extremely fast paced and busy press office that requires excellent organizational and time management skills
An interest in the financial services industry (preferably investment management) and how the industry fits within society
Experience in running digital campaigns / programmes on social media specifically across LinkedIn
Strong work ethic and willing to go above and beyond for the best outcomes
An understanding of the importance of delivering at a high standard to internal and external clients
