The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), ( HKUST(GZ) ), was officially approved by the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China to enter the preparatory status in September 2019.

Located in Nansha, Guangzhou, the campus covers 1.13 square kilometers and the first phase of construction is expected to be completed by September 2022.

At steady state, the number of undergraduate and postgraduate students will reach a total of 10,000. Under the Unified HKUST, Complementary Campuses framework, the intended areas of focus in HKUST(GZ) will be thematic and cross-disciplinary in nature, synergistic with HKUST, a world-renowned international research university with innovation in her DNA.

There will be four Academic Hubs (equivalent to schools) with 16 Thrust Areas (equivalent to departments).

The Role

The University is looking for applicants with experience or career aspirations in the area of biosciences. Reporting to senior management, the appointee will help establish, manage and operate a central research facility focusing on biosciences.


  • Perform a major role in assisting with establishing a bioscience central research facility from concept to operation; and
  • Work with stakeholders including faculty leaders, designers, contractors, suppliers, etc. to identify operational parameters and facilitate processes to meet these requirements in support of achieving university goals and objectives.
  • Qualification Requirements

  • A Ph.D. degree in bioscience or a related field, with 10 years’ working experience in universities;
  • Extensive experience in operating bioscience facilities to provide services in support of academic activities;
  • In-depth knowledge and substantial experience in :
  • Basic bioscience technology in tissue culturing, histology, flow cytometry, etc.;
  • Current methods and instrumentation related to multi-omics studies, including but not limited to genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, etc.;
  • Protocols for translational studies including pre-clinical assessment, chemical and genetic perturbations, etc.;
  • Imaging techniques and instrumentation including but not limited to confocal and super resolution microscopy, PET / MR, PET / CT, SPECT, etc.;
  • Infographics, bioArt, data science, etc.
  • A good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (proficiency in both Putonghua and Cantonese preferred).
  • This is a Mainland appointment, and the appointee will be offered a contract by HKUST Mainland entity in accordance with the Mainland labor laws and regulations.

    Appointment will initially be made on a 3-year contract, renewable subject to mutual agreement. Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
