Franklin Templeton is looking for a Head of Research and Portfolio Strategy for APAC to be based in Hong Kong, New York City, Ft.
Lauderdale, or San Mateo. This role will report to the President & COO, Asia Pacific Alternatives, overseeing a regional team of product strategy professionals, driving evolution of product strategy within the region aligned with regional business priorities.
Primary focus of the role is to provide strategic direction for product strategy within the region, in support of regional business objectives.
As the senior leader within the Asia Pacific Alternatives team, the role will apply market, industry, and company knowledge to provide insight to clients within the region on investment trends, product development and incubation.
Additionally, the role will leverage relationships with regional distribution leadership teams, external clients, and gatekeepers;
influences new product, pricing, and positioning strategies.
What are the ongoing responsibilities of this position?
Strategize and roadmap product range to capture product and market opportunities, sourcing for innovative product ideas, conducting market competitiveness analysis, identifying opportunities, and recommending product ideas suitable for customers across all channels
Identify market, regulatory, industry, competitor and investment trends & assess / communicate how they impact our institutional and retail products and local product ranges;
recommend changes to existing products, closures and new product ideas.
Provide training and presentations on these topics to senior management, relevant salespeople and external clients
New product development, strategize & develop recommendations to further build local product ranges for entire new product life cycle
Ensure that all products and services in the product suite for assigned region or channel remain in compliance with all regulatory requirements and appropriate remediation of any issues identified
Positioning product relative to local markets and channels (new and existing products) through internal written positioning papers, developing and delivering product training, conversations with senior management and partnering with marketing to provide regionally specific materials / messages
Competitive analysis, both written and verbal, across product range and relative to local competitors
Support the gathering and retention of assets under management by working closely with sales and client service professionals
Meet with key third party distributors (product gatekeepers) in the region and with institutional clients and consultants to evaluate investment needs and provide product, vehicle and pricing solutions
Work with managing directors and country business heads to support their local business by providing consultative and direct assistance to product-related inquiries, gather, compile and assess regional and channel needs, negotiate product approval process and address region specific pricing issues
What qualifications, skills and experience would help someone to be successful?
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business or Economics, MBA a plus
10-15 years related industry experience working with both retail and institutional clients
CFA qualification (or working toward completion) preferred
Possess a high energy level and drive to succeed coupled with ability to work effectively in a team environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong PC skills and proficient in Microsoft Office products
Excellent organizational and project management skills
Exceptional relationship management skills with senior leaders across the organization, particularly sales and client service professionals, and across geographies and time zones
Excellent ability to interact well with industry peers, current and prospective clients, consultants and distributor product gatekeepers
Exceptional collaboration and interpersonal skills
Solid understanding of multiple regulatory requirements (ideally throughout Asia and Australia as well as Luxembourg)
Knowledge of data sources for performance, flows, relevant competitive information
Excellent attention to detail
Excellent knowledge of markets, products & techniques
Highly motivated and a self-starter
Ability to multi-task and manage in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Very strong distribution channel expertise and client segment knowledge, expertise across multiple channels (e.g. retail and institutional)
Travel within region and occasional travel outside of region
