General Accountability :

Asia Treasury Operations is a key business partner in providing support of cash management operations of Manulife Asia. We are responsible for safeguarding of Manulife’s cash assets, working in close partnership with all Asia jurisdictions to ensure a robust control environment, developing an effective cash management infrastructure and driving Global Treasury initiatives across Asia.

Reporting to the VP, Head of Tax and Treasury Operations, Asia Finance, this new role is responsible for supporting Treasury strategic initiatives including but not limited to Global Accounts Payable (AP) and Bank Reconciliation and requires extensive knowledge of Treasury tools to support business requirements across Asia.

This position has a mandate to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Global Cash Management, AP and Bank Reconciliation business processes across Asia but working with our partners in Global Treasury to ensure in line with our Global Treasury system functionality.

Working with the Asia Treasury Operations team, the candidate will also be expected to deliver consistent service across Asia Division ensuring payment and collections are executed on a timely basis with our banking partners, contribute to the development of a robust cash management framework and bank structure for Asia Division.

This position is also the designated change agent and is accountable for conducting strategic and ad hoc controls and processes analysis that may include, but not limited to, the following : strategic business assessment, latest industry trends and best practices, peer analysis etc.

This position will work closely with the Treasury teams in Toronto and across Asia and various corporate and division stakeholder groups.

Providing support within the Asia Treasury Operations team to provide timely execution of daily Treasury activities, provide system and process support or services for Treasury operations across Asia.

Resolve all urgent issues in a timely manner.

2. Process Improvement Accountabilities (30%) :

  • Support the operational initiatives within Asia Treasury Operations to improve business processes and activities (including but not limited to AP and Bank Reconciliation processes and controls) through identifying processes for review and redesign, improve and simplify existing business processes by researching and investigating for optimal solutions.
  • Work with key stakeholders (mainly Controllers group in Asia) to perform detailed process mapping and prepare analysis of the current processes vs future processes and controls.
  • Work directly with Treasury project team and local Controllers in Asia to develop solutions and implement new workflows or processes (if applicable).

    3. Operational Initiatives (30%)

  • Lead operational initiatives or intakes. coordinate amongst multiple stakeholders, and contribute as Subject Matter Expert on various functions including but not limited to Accounts Payable, Bank Reconciliation, Cash Accounting, Administration of internal approvers, Security Administration and MIS Reporting.
  • Write business requirements and specification to support operational initiatives or intakes.
  • Ensure projects are completed to requirements, meet quality assurance criteria and timelines.
  • Review and evaluation of options to deliver robust solutions to our business partners.
  • Meaningful and timely reporting & analysis on status, resourcing and benefit realization.
  • Work cooperatively with all required areas and develop productive working relationships.
  • Establish responsible deadlines and personal work plans to manage time and multiple tasks .effectively.
  • Support the presentation of recommendations to management based on detailed and objective analysis.
  • Recommend solutions to changing business, risk or regulatory environment.

    Knowledge / Skills / Competencies / Education :

  • University Business Degree and / or recognized accounting designation.
  • 10+ years equivalent work experience in the financial services industry, preferably in a treasury or finance function. Basic knowledge of treasury, cash management operations, AP and bank reconciliation is essential.
  • Essential the candidate can communicate clearly and effectively in English (written and spoken) as the position will require the candidate to work closely with people across the Asia Division.
  • Motivated, proactive mindset which constantly seeks new challenges and opportunities to refine processes / approaches / existing methodologies.
  • Attention to detail and ability to replicate repetitive tasks consistently and accurately without exceptions is critical.
  • Ability to meet daily deadlines and prioritize daily tasks as necessary in a fast-paced environment is a must.
  • Strong team player, achievement oriented, self-motivated, taking initiative, business acumen.
  • Global mindset - skilled at managing inter-cultural and global relationships; flexibility to accommodate global project schedules, which will include off-
