Leadership and Management : General
Work closely with the Headmaster ensuring he is briefed about day-to-day issues as appropriate;
Deputise for the Headmaster as and when may be necessary;
Provide professional leadership in all areas of school life;
Work closely with the wider Malvern College Hong Kong management team, Malvern College UK and with other Malvern College schools around the world to promote the values and ethos of Malvern College;
Oversee the smooth day to day running of the school, including academic, co-curricular and operational matters;
Ensure that procedures and schedules are implemented effectively and in line with the school’s ethos, vision and policies;
Oversee the timetabling and staffing arrangements of the school;
Support and liaise with the admissions office, liaising directly with the Headmaster about pupil acceptance;
Oversee the pastoral life of the College, ensuring that pupils and staff are supported and nurtured;
Ensure creativity, innovation and the use of appropriate new technologies and initiatives to achieve excellence;
Ensure appropriate educational and administrative procedures and processes are in place in order to facilitate the school strategy effectively and efficiently;
Utilise and manage the resources including manpower, equipment and infrastructure effectively;
Oversee Health and Safety procedures in the school;
Leadership and Management : Pupils
Explore and promote opportunities for pupils beyond the curriculum and beyond the confines of the school day to provide Malvern pupils with a truly holistic education in line with the school’s vision;
Oversee safeguarding policy and procedures and fulfil the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead;
Lead the alignment and collaboration between secondary and primary departments to ensure progression and continuity in the pupils’ experience;
Work closely with the Admissions team on the recruitment of pupils.
Leadership and Management : Staff
Oversee and support the work of the Head of Secondary and Head of Primary to ensure effective procedures and alignment across the school;
Oversee and support the work of the Senior Housem, CCA Co-ordinator, School Nurse and School Counsellor to ensure the successful development of the pastoral care and wider life of the school;
Work closely with the Office Manager to ensure the effective operational running of the school;
Support the professional growth of colleagues by overseeing and implementing appropriate appraisal and performance systems encompassing academic and non-academic staff;
In conjunction with the Headmaster and HR department, play an active part in the recruitment of both academic and non-academic staff.
Build and maintain effective partnerships between the school, pupils and parents;
Liaise with the Heads of Secondary and Primary over Pupil Parent Teacher consultations;
Work with the parent community to ensure that they are well informed and involved as partners in the school;
Work with all stakeholders in developing and maintaining excellent external relations with the school communities, and the wider community of Hong Kong;
Contribute to marketing materials to promote the school.
Minimum 6 years’ teaching experience;
Experience of both primary and secondary age groups advantageous;
Proven educational leadership experience;
Previous experience of working in an international school;
Previous experience leading the use of innovative technology and cutting edge curriculum offering to enhance teaching and learning;
Experience in throughtrain school is advantageous;
Prior experience of a school capturing the British independent school ethos is preferred;
Recent experience of IB curriculum;
Proven track record of success in school management at a senior level;
Well-versed in operations workflow and to deliver school business objective;
Prior experience working in Asia is a plus.
Strategic leadership skills, ambition, passion and vision required to take on the challenge of building the brand of Malvern College in Hong Kong;
Sensitivity to the cultural differences found in Hong Kong and the willingness to develop and maintain a cross cultural approach to work.
