The Actuarial Life Practice is a part of the broader Actuarial Practice which strives to be the consulting partner of choice for clients and employees, and to be recognized as the premier life, annuity and LTC actuarial consultancy by fostering the power of ideas to lead our industry, consistently helping clients achieve their strategic objectives, and gaining trusted advisor status.

Office / Regions available : Hong Kong

The Actuarial Life Practice is expanding its reach into the Asia-Pacific region. The practice is seeking top talent in Hong Kong and is opening a Principal position in its Hong Kong office.

The new Principal will have the exciting opportunity of growing the Actuarial Asian Practice from the ground-up and will have an outsized influence on the strategic direction of the Practice.

The Principal will report to the Actuarial Asian practice leader based in the US and will be expected to lead business development in Hong Kong life insurance market and to contribute to a broad range of client projects, including both Hong Kong and US projects.

The Principal will play a key role in the sourcing and delivery of projects for Oliver Wyman’s clients, which include top tier insurance companies, reinsurance companies, investment banks, law firms, regulators, and private equity firms.

Potential projects and responsibilities may include :

Oversight of large or multiple client engagements work planning, communications, process and client management

Identification and development of new sources of business

Lead or participate in client sales meetings

Proposal development

Thought leadership, including oversight and / or creation of intellectual capital

Creation and analysis of financial projections

Insurance mergers & acquisitions

Capital markets transactions support

Life and annuity product development and financial reporting

Client and industry presentations, surveys, case studies

Work in partnership with our management consulting and strategy practice

Operating with a high degree of personal responsibility and accountability for the maintenance of a portfolio of clients

Working as a senior member of a team and acting as a role model for less experienced colleagues

Skills and Attributes

FSA / FIA or equivalent actuarial credentials with 15+ years of professional experience

Robust life insurance, annuity and / or long-term care knowledge and industry recognition in areas such as product development, valuation, financial reporting, and risk management

Track record of leading and managing teams, and delivering against tight deadlines in fast-paced, demanding environments

Knowledgeable in Hong Kong insurance regulations, such as Hong Kong Risk Based Capital (RBC)

Knowledgeable in local financial accounting such as IFRS-17

Knowledge of financial modeling systems (Prophet preferred and Moody’s Analytics AXISTM knowledge is a plus)

Strong project management and project team leadership skills

Ability to manage staff

Strong written and oral communication skills

Strong skills with the Microsoft Office suite
