Completion of five or six-year architectural degree program;
Minimum of six years total professional experience; experience in all phases of project work including preparation of conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction documents and supporting materials;
Minimum three years total professional experience in developing technical design aspects of projects related to project delivery;
Minimum one year total professional experience in construction administration aspects of projects, including tender / shop drawing review, RFI, site observation / report, etc.
Demonstrated detailed knowledge of building materials, detailing, construction techniques, building systems selection, related engineering principles, sustainability strategies and building codes;
Demonstrated interest and ability to involve more in building construction process and on-site work, including periodic (at least two-
three times per month) travel to construction sites in China.
Demonstrated general understanding of programming and functional adjacencies;
Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit, word processing, presentation programs like PowerPoint and spreadsheet programs;
Demonstrated understanding of digital modeling and rendering programs, and Photoshop etc.;
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing in both English and Chinese
Experience with well-known international firms is preferred
Experience on large scale mix-used or commercial projects is preferred
Experience on façade and interior in CD phase is preferred.
Communication skill and experience with consultants and contractors is preferred.
Strong skills in items below is preferred.
Plans, schedules, organizes, and executes distinct portions of larger projects; or entire scope of smaller projects, under periodic oversight of an Associate, Associate Director, Director or Partner;
Provides technical design input and support for the development of the entire design concept for the assigned work under an Associate, Associate Director, Director or Partner;
With periodic supervision, responsible for a project’s or an assigned portion of a project’s technical design effort, subsequent detailed design development, project coordination and quality control efforts during all phases of project work in close collaboration with a Senior Designer;
Develops thorough understanding of design philosophy of projects and provides major input in developing a design and building performance strategy relative to assigned task or area of responsibility and can effectively convey this to assigned team members when appropriate;
Seeks creative and innovative solutions to assigned tasks and develops appropriate research and documentation to support these solutions;
Actively collaborates with and coordinates work of consultants and knowledge resources to ensure that project deliverables are coordinated, integrated and support the design concept and performance goals of the project;
Organizes own work efforts and that of his / her assigned team where applicable;
Contributes to preparation of design documents and leads the detailed development of construction documents during all project phases;
Assists in the review of design and construction documents in order to comply with the approved requirements of the client;
Directly assists and mentors assigned team members and, more broadly, architectural levels A, B, C, and D in the office at large as appropriate;
Sets an example for team effort through the spirit of cooperation;
Proactively checks and coordinates project documents (including but not limited to drawing set organization, details, dimensions, interdisciplinary coordination items, specifications coordination, etc.
and is responsible for quality control of such tasks in accordance with SOM’s quality control program;
Proactively checks, coordinates and integrates work with other project team members who are working on adjacent or otherwise relevant project areas that may not be in the assigned task area;
Performs and / or directs material and building systems research and participates in the coordination and preparation of project specifications;
Responsible for construction phase (construction administration) services under periodic oversight of an Associate, Associate Director, Director or Partner and oversees fellow team members and direct reports in CA tasks;
Reviews shop drawings and sample submittals and supervises fellow team members and direct reports in the review of shop drawing and sample submittals;
Coordinates and develops responses to contractor questions, inquiries, RFI’s etc. and supervises fellow team members and direct reports to that end;
