Job Summary
As a member of the Technical Underwriting management team, direct a specialized Line of Business or a segment of a Line of Business (LoB) to improve underwriting performance
Provide underwriting leadership; direct the implementation and sustainment of The Zurich Way of Underwriting
Lead underwriting operational transformation and supports a sound governance framework in assigned area
Contribute to the development of strategic LoB underwriting goals, and underwriting policy for the assigned LoB
Deliver Key Performance Indicators through oversight of their respective LoB portfolio, addresses emerging issues and identifies opportunities working with local teams
Drive LoB product management & effectively partnering with Underwriting Business Units to execute underwriting strategy
Job Accountabilities :
Ensure consistent and enhanced underwriting across the assigned Lines of Business and drive portfolio management to improve underwriting performance
Describe, encourage and enforce a rigorous underwriting process and procedure monitoring system
Set and deliver Underwriting Key Performance Indicators including Actual Premium / Technical Price (AP / TP) metrics
Address emerging issues and identifies opportunities for growth or change within their LoB
Establish exposure identification, risk assessment, risk response, control activities and monitoring of the LoB for which position is accountable
Ensure effective leadership and management of Underwriting professionals / resources
Monitor framework for underwriting decisions, including authority grants, referrals, technical underwriting reviews; responsible for design and implementation of rating and pricing tools and methodologies
Provide underwriting insight for underwriting tools
Support the LoB underwriting strategy for product development in close collaboration with Proposition Development
Drive standardization and simplification of product, process and tools across the LoB wherever feasible
Identify LoB Technical training and develops relational LoB training framework; interact with industry and regulatory bodies as needed
Optimize allocation of resources and launch common products, projects, investments across the BU
Develop, expand business opportunities, long-term customer relationships
Identify opportunities and risks associated with changes in direction of external environment
Determine which emerging issues (internal and external) are relevant to current and future needs and ensure strategies, programs, processes are incorporate
Ensure that appropriate documentation, implementation and communication of established policy, procedures and operating standards is completed for area of responsibility
Regularly monitors and evaluates activities to identify potential risks and issues of non-compliance
Participate or lead the risk assessment for their area of responsibility and escalate potential issues to higher management
Job Qualifications
Bachelor degree (or equivalent) with 10 years of experience in related field
Ability to develop and build trust based business relationships with a broad range of internal clients, specifically executives and / or senior management
Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills; self-motivation and self-discipline is required
Proactive team player who contributes across business lines to support team success and able to confidently engage with senior leaders
