Role Summary

The Director, Strategic Performance and Quality Assurance holder will work with the Chief Executive Officer and senior colleagues to shape the strategic direction of ESF with a specific remit to :

Develop, design and lead ESF’s approach to strategic performance, driving the development of approaches to create a system which ensures and evidences world-

  • class outcomes for students and the wider organisation;
  • Provide strategic performance, planning and management advice to the Chief Executive Officer and colleagues within the senior management team and schools;
  • Build links and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance performance improvement; and

    Arrange professional development to support wide engagement with, and participation in, ESF’s strategic and school performance system.

    Main Responsibilities will include :

  • Shaping the development of ESF’s Performance Strategy to cultivate a performance-focused culture and to deliver a robust system for evaluating outcomes in line with our goals;
  • Leading the review and monitoring of the ESF Performance Strategy and, as required, working with the directors to target interventions for whole system improvement, focusing on student experience and outcomes;
  • Developing and integrating ESF’s use of data and research at all levels to support an intelligence-led, high performing system;
  • Supporting and challenging directors and principals in their responsibilities to ensure that all students are able to realise the shared ambition to be the best that they can;
  • Providing reports on school and system performance to support the work of the Education Committee and of the Audit Committee;
  • Working with directors and principals to support the continuous development of a high quality, performance culture, focused on students’ learning, their safety, wellbeing and achievement;
  • Leading and developing ESF’s use of performance reporting to support evaluation of the effectiveness of teaching and learning approaches, as well as the alignment of priorities, targeting funding and minimising risk;
  • Providing effective leadership of the operation and co-ordination of the strategic performance framework, to support the Foundation in achieving its goals;
  • As a senior leader, contributing to the effective leadership of the organisation, working with colleagues across the Foundation;
  • Advising the CEO and members of the senior management team, advisory committees and the ESF Board on matters relating to the quality of students’ experience and school and strategic performance; and

    Enabling robust evaluation and scrutiny of the Foundation’s work and delivery, measured against Key Performance Indicators.

    Experience :

    Candidates should be able to demonstrate :

  • Significant senior leadership experience in education, with at least 5 years working across schools at system or district level;
  • A proven track-record of monitoring and evaluating school performance, with clear evidence of continuous improvement at system level;
  • Experience of cultivating innovation, through initiating leading and evaluating fresh approaches and new ways of working; and

    Experience of smart collaboration, identifying and brigading existing approaches and resources, successfully delivering on short and long-term projects.

  • First-class communication skills, in particular excellent report-writing skills;
  • Ability to quickly and decisively take action in fast-changing, unpredictable situations;

  • Experience in monitoring and evaluating all aspects of school and wider system performance.
