Our technology teams are responsible for building an application platform used by other development teams across Wellington to build and deploy portfolio manager facing applications (including research & collaboration, modelling, and order submission).

We are seeking a candidate for a Lead Software Engineer who can work closely with other members of IT including other developers, business analysts, and QA engineers to design, develop, test, implement, and support solutions to meet business requirements and growing Asia-based business.

This is a multi-faceted role, and the successful candidate will be dynamic and capable of prioritizing and shifting focus while remaining calm under pressure.

This individual will be a senior member of the APAC Development & Quality Assurance cohort. This team consists of technical resources from across the department including investment technology, trading technology, core transactional technology, and portfolio data technology.

This individual will additionally be responsible for managing and coaching resources to ensure the success of the cohort.


  • Lead the delivery of high-quality business solutions, including participating in architecture, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and support to meet the need of our Asia-based investors
  • Work with business teams, project managers, and systems analysts to review and qualify business requirements, functional specifications, use-cases, and test plans
  • Engage Portfolio Managers and Portfolio Analysts regularly to maintain feedback loop
  • Design, prototype and code new software components and applications based on functional specifications across the full stack - services, web and mobile clients, infrastructure, and back-end
  • Coordinate with analyst teams and vendors to execute test plans and provide support during user acceptance testing
  • Modify and enhance existing systems to incorporate new functionality and to optimize them for performance
  • Author technical design and support documentation
  • Work with the QA team to devise or improve test plans
  • Provide guidance and supervision of other team members in the APAC Dev & QA cohort

  • 5, or more, years of demonstrated experience designing and developing web applications and services, and other relevant enterprise technologies (e.g., Java, .Net)
  • 5, or more, years of demonstrated experience designing and developing complex web services using REST, JavaScript / NodeJS, Java, and related technologies
  • Familiarity with developing web applications using HTML5, CSS, and modern UI frameworks such as Angular and React
  • Experience with, and a demonstrated understanding of, modern software development and testing methodologies, such as Artifactory, GIT, and Jenkins CI
  • Experience developing application with cloud technologies, such as AWS desired
  • Ability to understand legacy in-house applications and highly complex and interrelated systems and processing
  • Experience with various software development methodologies, such as Agile
  • Comfortable working across time zones
  • Understanding of Fixed Income instruments and Derivatives is desired
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability and willingness to work in an energetic, fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities effectively
  • Ability and willingness to work effectively in a business-critical production environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, Economics, Finance, or related subject
