Nucleic Acid based Bioengineering Laboratory at HKUST is inviting research talents to apply for multiple positions at the level of Research Assistant or Post-doctoral Fellow to conduct R&D work to develop innovative molecular diagnostic technology and device for large-population screening and point of care testing.
The positions can start in April 2021, renewable annually for up to two to three years for highly satisfactory performers.
Main responsibilities include :
Translating concepts into functional prototypes for molecular diagnostics, from creation of 2D and 3D CAD to manufacturing and testing;
Performing design engineering duties related to design, manufacturing, assembling, and testing;
Collaborating with Principal Investigator and postgraduate students to understand applications in the diagnostics field; and
Interfacing with external partners to understand industry standards and practices.
Successful applicants should have the following background and skills :
A STEM degree, preferably within electrical, mechanical, biomedical or design engineering discipline. For Research Assistant position a bachelor’s or a master’s degree from a university in Hong Kong;
for Post-doctoral Fellow position a PhD degree from a local university or a non-local institution among the Top 100 for STEM-related subjects (Refer to RTH-ITF requirements for applicable ranking tables);
Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD;
Experience in designing, manufacturing (plastic or metal) and assembling mechanical and low-power electronic systems;
Strong capacity to learn and apply advanced knowledge;
Keen interest with experience in instrumentation, automation and data acquisition of the prototype are preferred; and
Prior hands-on experience related to molecular biology, biomedical research, bioassays, and / or clinical samples is a plus.
