Major Loss Claims Adjuster

Purpose of the Role :

To handle Financial Lines claims of high complexity and monetary exposure.This mayincludecoverage determinations, investigating the loss, conductingan independent assessment as to the company's exposure, participation in developing and implementingthe most cost effective and timely resolution of the claim,and quantum analysis,ensuring mitigation of indemnity and expense exposure while communicating developments and outcomes as necessary to all key internal and external stakeholders.

May also include cross-border claims handling, including awareness of legal and regulatory systems outside "home" jurisdiction.

This is a team member role within Hong Kong’s financial lines claims team.

Responsibilities & Accountability

1.Responsibilities :

Managing Financial Lines claims handling enquiry; coverage determination, quantum analysis and legal liability assessment, where appropriate.

Prepares and evaluates investigation strategies, which identify critical issues affecting liability, causation and damages.

Appropropriately considers opportunities for third part contribution.Makes an independent evaluation of liability and damages.

Makes independent evaluation ofliability and damages. Analyse exposures and tradeoffs between defence costs and settlement / judgment costs as new information becomes available.

Makes timely and accurate potential exposure recommendations.

Ensuring effective vendor and litigation management on Major Loss claims within a personal allocation, with a focus on significantly reducing the use of outside vendors

Reporting key claims messages to Major Loss Claims Manager APAC. Broader internal / external stakeholder communication where required, as Financial Lines technical claims expert and thought leader

Delivery of technical training to Major Loss colleagues and external contacts as appropriate, assist in continuous improvement across the region through support for the Quality Assurance / Regional Audit processes

Represent AIG Financial Lines claims expertise on external technical panels and / or industry forums

Draft and produce relevant claims related insights, studies and information.

Contribute to maintenance of best practice procedures for Financial Lines claims, consistent with global best practice.

A senior technical referral point, supporting the Major Loss Claims Manager APAC.

Provide technical support and claims handling assistance to other members of the Claims Team as directed.

Co-ordinating Major Loss Management Information for senior business stakeholders and presenting same during business processes (e.

g. quarterly estimate meetings)

2. Accountabilities :

  • Timely, accurate and customer focused claim resolution, minimising indemnity exposure and mitigating vendor and legal expense
  • Effective communication of key Major Loss claims and Financial Lines portfolio messages to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Financial control through consistent reserve and other financial transaction discipline
  • Accurate and consistent policy interpretation , includingassisting others within the claims team with coverage considerations and preparation of coverage positions
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of claims related actuarial issues and the impact of claims on NLI
  • Leadership Skills :

    Excellent communication skills, both written & verbal (ability to speak Chinese will be an advantage)

    Strong presentation skills .

    Time management ability to manage & prioritise workload and diary management.

    Ability to lead within a team environment .

    Ability to deliver technical training to claims handling teams.

    Ability to influence claims stakeholders to effectively direct claims strategy

    Stakeholder management experience, both internal (underwriting, distribution, actuarial, finance and executive management) and external (brokers, major account clients)

    Technical Skills and Expertise

    Specialist knowledge in Financial Lines technical claims topics (as listed over page).

    Policy language skills enabling accurate and consistent policy wording interpretation

    Knowledge of legal / regulatory and litigation / proceduralrequirements

    Experience in negotiation, mediation, arbitration and ADR skills

    Experience in conducting technical claims audits and effectively following up on findings.

    Catastrophe management experience

    Ability to manage claims outside local jurisdiction where appropriate, including understanding of local laws and regulation, regular interaction with claims team in originating jurisdiction and ensure regular reporting in both locations
