The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) invites applications for founding faculty positions at all levels at Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor rank in Internet of Things (IoT) Thrust for its new campus in Guangzhou (GZ).
The IoT thrust area adopts an inter-disciplinary pedagogy to prepare students with integrated knowledge to pursue new innovations and to explore the new research frontiers in forming IoT-enabled future smart cities and digital society.
IoT is a multi-disciplinary area about the convergence of various fundamental enabling technologies. HKUST (GZ) is interested in candidates who can create a multi-disciplinary IoT curriculum and pursue high impact research in a science, technology and engineering oriented academic environment.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree and work in one or more of the following IoT-related areas : IoT infrastructure and devices (sensing devices, processors, integrated circuits, and embedded systems), IoT systems and communications (wireless communications and networking, middleware, and cloud / edge computing), IoT intelligence and automation (data analytics, machine learning, and algorithm design), IoT applications (smart grid, smart home, smart city, smart transportation and autonomous driving, and smart healthcare), IoT security and privacy-enhancing technologies.

It is about 30 minutes away from Hong Kong by high-speed train. The new campus is under construction and is planned to open in 2022.
Successful candidates may start working on the Clear Water Bay campus in Hong Kong before the new campus is completed.

We will achieve this mission through cross-disciplinary research and education in collaboration with other thrust areas from this and other hubs and related programs in our Clearwater Bay campus.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service
Salary is highly competitive of international standard and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Generous research funds, ample laboratory space and excellent research equipment and support will be provided.
All posts are tenure-track Mainland China appointments to be offered by the HKUST Mainland entity in accordance with the local employment laws and regulations.
Appointment to Professor rank and some Associate Professor rank will be made on substantive basis while initial appointment to other tenure-track faculty ranks will be made on a fixed-term contract of up to three years commencing the earliest in July / August 2020.
Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to performance, mutual agreement and funding availability.
