will revolve around the collection, transcription, and analysis of interactive communication data, primarily from paired conversations and group interactions between students learning / practicing English for Academic and / or Specific Purposes.
S / he would also assist other aspects of the research, such as preparing written and spoken reports as well as other materials based on the results.
1. The successful candidates should possess a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics or related subjects, and no more than a total of 6 years of service at the University.
2. Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas of research are required :
Multimodal data transcription and analysis (quantitative / qualitative)
Testing and assessment of English language speaking activities, especially paired conversation / group interaction (as on Cambridge B2 First, CET-SET, HKDSE, etc.)
Interactional competence, interactive communication, interactional language functions
English for Academic / Specific Purposes
Studies of gesture / multimodal interaction / embodied cognition
Second language acquisition / development
3. Other academic skills are highly desirable :
Preparing written and spoken reports
Creating teaching and assessment materials
Communicating about research with specialists and non-specialists
4. Candidates should also possess :
Excellent interpersonal communication and work ethic
Good organizational skills and time management, skills to coordinate work with part-time assistants
High level of enthusiasm and motivation for the Project
Genuine interest in the questions explored by the research
