The Asia General Account is a dynamic business which has been growing significantly and will continue to expand. The business is largely focused on making private and alternative assets investments for Manulife’s assets from its insurance business.
The team in Asia continues to explore and expand investments into new asset classes for Asia. Incumbent will have opportunity to support the Managing Director, Head of Finance and Business Advisory for Asia General Account Investments and the CIO for Asia General Account Investments in various business development projects, financial review and controls enhancement for the growing business operations across the Asia region.
Manulife’s Investment Division has strong expertise managing a broad range of investments including public and private bonds, public and private equities, commercial mortgages, real estate, power and infrastructure, timberland, farmland, and oil and gas.
Our Investment Division has a global physical presence in key markets, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore.
The General Account investment philosophy is to invest in an asset mix that optimizes our risk adjusted returns and matches the characteristics of our underlying liabilities.
Manulife’s Global General Account invested assets totaled approximately USD$290 billion at the end of 2019.The General Account team operates as part of Manulife’s Investment Division.
Candidate will also have the opportunity to work with the Global WAM & GA Finance & Strategy team, who are responsible for the financial controllership supporting the Asia General Account businesses.

We are looking for someone with :
Experience in project management for cross functional initiatives with exposure to insurance and asset management (experience with Agile, PMP or equivalent is a plus)
Adeptness in usage of computing technology including Microsoft Power point presentations, Excel (knowledge of advanced formulas, pivots, macro / VBA knowledge) and other systems
Working knowledge of range of asset classes including- derivatives, fixed income, private assets (debt and equity) and experience with setting up investment vehicle structures is a plus.
Sound analytical and organizational skills are highly beneficial
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work productively with multiple parties at all different levels in this global organization
Ability to work adaptably and independently within the growing business
On the job you will :
Coordinate and drive cross functional project implementation with key global stakeholders by ensuring deliverables are organized and completed in a timely manner.
Projects will range from driving the setup of new asset classes or fund vehicles for Asia, for instance a 2020 target includes setting up a feeder fund vehicle to address Japan JGAAP hedge accounting limitations.
Support development of investment capabilities in the fixed income, private equity, real estate and derivative space for Asia Emerging Markets including influencing market establishment in Frontier Emerging Markets.
Ensure the Asia General Account’s legal framework and model is current with all signoffs executed.
Support trading and derivative desks with counterparty management and initial margin review.
Relationship management for Asia Lifecos and provide analysis to address inquiries, strategic reviews, board presentations and specific projects as needed by local management.
Assist with enhancing processes and controls within the business as well as have an opportunity to be involved with key strategic initiatives including upgrades of the operational system backbone.
Build presentations to support the strategic business proposals and communication.
Assist with any other work as designated by the Managing Director, Head of Finance and Business Advisory, General Account Investments, Asia.
