The Chinese University of Hong Kong () was founded in 1963, and is a forward-looking and intellectually vigorous university whose mission is to be a first-class comprehensive research university, regionally and internationally.

Bilingualism is adopted in teaching, research and administration. The Director reports to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor / University Dean of Students, and will take charge of the Office of Student Affairs.

He / She will lead the planning, development and provision of a range of services to students to create and support a high-quality student life experience for all students at CUHK.

These include learning and cultural enhancement, career planning and development, student activities and amenities management, mental wellness and counselling, services for non-local students, publications and statistics.

He / She will also work closely with Colleges and contribute to the overall development of the University by assisting in the formulation of strategic and operational plans to foster student support and engagement.

  • As the administrative head of the Office, the appointee will (a) coordinate the formulation and implementation of policies relating to student welfare and personal development;
  • b) supervise a team of professional and supporting staff; (c) maintain relationship with student bodies / societies; and (d) oversee the management of the student amenities centres on campus.

    He / She will also represent the University on various external bodies and participate in inter-institutional committees and projects.

    The appointee is expected to be a well-qualified administrator / educator with substantial administrative / managerial experience in the educational, public or commercial sectors who shares a commitment to the University’s goals.

  • They will need (i) excellent communication skills in spoken and written Chinese (both Cantonese and Putonghua) and English;
  • ii) first-rate interpersonal skills; (iii) a mature personality; (iv) the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues within the Office and the University to create a target-driven team environment as well as to maintain a variety of local / mainland / overseas partnerships;
  • and (v) the ability to exercise independent decision-making, and work under pressure in a demanding environment. In addition to a good degree, relevant higher degree(s) or qualification(s), and / or experience in counselling or training, as well as working knowledge of computer applications and statistical research methods will be additional assets.

    Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for up to three years, renewable subject to mutual agreement. The University reserves the right to fill the post by invitation. Application and Nomination
