Prof Pei-Yuan Qian’s laboratory in Department of Ocean Science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is seeking highly enthusiastic, self-motivated, dynamic, and academically excellent candidates to fill 3 Research Assistant Professor (RAP) positions.
In recent years, the laboratory has been studying different evolutionary and ecological hypotheses in marine ecosystems, especially deep-sea hydrothermal vent and seep, using multidisciplinary approaches.
The RAPs will conduct research in the following fields :
We are very actively involved in organizing deep-sea cruises, particularly the cruises to the Indian Ocean vents and seeps in the western Pacific.
We are also working on different populations / species collected by our collaborators from Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC).
The laboratory offers highly competitive appointment packages. The candidates will be offered the opportunities to develop grant proposals, to co-supervise master’s degree and PhD students as well as to teach.

A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract. Contract renewal will be subject to performance, funding availability and mutual agreement.
