The Senior Business Process Specialist is the mid-level job in the Business Process Specialists job family. They operate in medium to high complexity regional environments, taking their instructions from a senior manager in the region.

Senior Business Process Specialists take their guidance from the Principal Business Process Specialist and their primary responsibility is to devise and design business process requirements, including researching, identifying and analysing the efficiency of existing business and / or operational processes and making recommendations for change to ensure an improvement in client service, reduction in costs or an increase in efficiencies.

In so doing, they define, develop, document, test and optimise the processes that support the business.

What you'll be doing

Develop and implement methodology

Senior Business Process Specialists contribute to the development of best practice methodologies for analysing the effectiveness of key processes.

They advise relevant stakeholders in the business on improvement options and apply business process redesign methodology to develop effective solution to business problems at a regional level.

Identify process improvements

The Senior Business Process Specialist uses their analytical skills to ensure the proactive identification of business and / or operational process improvements through data analysis to ensure constructive suggestions for change.

They use the information gathered from medium and complex incidents raised by the operation to ensure the identification of process improvements.

They also identify potential cross-functional synergies and improvements that will ensure optimal performance within their area of responsibility.

These individuals assess business systems through business risk assessment and assist in the identification of risk mitigating strategies.

By utilising complex analysis techniques such as transaction testing, benchmarking of best practice and external research, they assess process strengths and weaknesses.

The Senior Business Process Specialist conducts impact assessments of process gaps by analysing grey areas not clearly defined by established standards and ensuring that these are mapped during the design process.

Design process improvements

These individuals facilitate the design / re-design of business processes including clarifying, identifying issues and facilitating changes to attain the highest levels of client service, efficiency, control and compliance.

They develop, standardize and maintain new or improved processes based on their findings and analysis. The Senior Business Process Specialist engages with a variety of stakeholders and facilitates workshops to generate, review and update the new improved processes.

They suggest and implement continuous operational improvements with clear measurable benefits and present the relevant business cases which articulate return on investment to the relevant stakeholders.

These individuals contribute to the definition of risk mitigation action plans to resolve existing gaps in processes. They ensure the preparation of detailed process diagrams and the accompanying documentation in terms of their process design.

Implement process improvements

The Senior Business Process Specialist ensures the implementation of operational changes to support marketing campaigns, new regulatory requirements and business projects.

They liaise and engage with clients to drive change in their business and contribute to the new client or services take-on process, ensuring that all processes are documented accurately.

They ensure that all new processes are tested prior to implementation and liaise with the required internal teams to ensure the change control and management process.

Project management

These individuals’ co-ordinate the implementation and delivery of internal and external projects related to business process improvement, against a predetermined project plan.

They identify resources required and ensure the appropriate allocation of such resources. At times, they may be required to assist with the scoping of projects and the identification of cause and effect relationships to ensure that the necessary steps are established to mitigate risk.

They ensure that the required change management processes are followed and initiatives are implemented in line with Dimension Data standards and methodology.

Reports and documentation

The Senior Business Process Specialist ensures that both internal and external stakeholder expectations are effectively managed through regular communication and accurate reporting as required.

This individual documents all business processes, policies and procedures. They ensure that all data related to business processes is collected and centralised in one repository.

System support

They co-ordinate the update and maintenance of related business process systems. These individuals ensure the accuracy of all business process data on the relevant systems and assist in keeping this information on all relevant systems up to date, ensuring that business process changes are reflected.

Behavioural skills

These individuals have an excellent understanding of business and / or operational processes and have the ability to produce a high quality of work.

They are pedantic, analytical and process driven individuals who display excellent attention to detail. They display the required project management and interpersonal skills to ensure the successful implementation of new or renewed processes.

They have well developed influencing ability and excellent written and verbal communication skills coupled with strong collaboration skills.

These individuals have a strong business foundation and proven root cause analysis and project management capability.
