The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is a world-renowned international research university. The Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China officially approved the preparatory status of HKUST(GZ) in September 2019.

The GZ campus covers 1.13 square kilometers and the first phase of construction is expected to be completed in 2022. At steady state, the number of undergraduate and postgraduate students will reach a total of 10,000.

The intended areas of focus in the GZ Campus will be thematic and cross-disciplinary in nature, synergistic with HKUST without overlapping academic degrees or structures.

There will be four Academic Hubs (equivalent to schools) with 16 Thrust Areas (equivalent to departments).

The Role

The University is looking for applicants with experience or career aspirations in laboratory services. Reporting to the Laboratory Services Manager, the appointee will plan, coordinate, and implement new installations and maintenance of laboratory furniture, mechanical and electrical services.

The ability to work with laboratory end users for their requirements and communication with other service support units and external parties such as contractors are essential.

The appointee is expected to commence employment with a 6-month period of orientation and familiarization at HKUST’s Clear Water Bay Campus with the Laboratory Services team and will return to HKUST Guangzhou Campus upon completion.

Qualification Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical engineering or building services, plus at least 5 year of post-qualification experience, or a higher diploma in the aforementioned disciplines with at least 10 years of post-qualification experience;
  • Relevant work experience in HKSAR and the PRC is an advantage;
  • Good analytical and organizational skills, a strong sense of responsibility and ability to work both independently and under a team environment;
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office applications, Chinese word processing and AutoCAD is preferred; and
  • Good command of written English and Chinese (proficiency in both Putonghua and Cantonese preferred).
  • This is a Mainland appointment, and the appointee will be offered a contract by HKUST Mainland entity in accordance with the Mainland labor laws and regulations.

    Appointment will initially be made on a 2-year contract, renewable subject to mutual agreement. Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
