Job Description

We are seeking a well-organized and conscientious Portfolio Manager to join our team. The position will pro-actively manage a list of academic journals in the Humanities and Social Science fields.

The successful applicant will have the capacity to represent Taylor & Francis at external meetings with editorial contacts, along with a good degree of flexibility and the ability to work with new databases, systems and processes.

Whilst taking a team-oriented approach with colleagues, the candidate will also enjoy working autonomously as required. Travel in APAC will be required.

What you'll be doing :

Your job responsibilities may include the following but not limited to :

  • Overseeing the editorial and financial performance of an existing portfolio of journals including managing detailed budgets
  • Take a proactive role in journal development and growth
  • Building a network of contacts and developing strategic plans to enhance our position in the field
  • Liaising with and supporting journal editors and academic society officers
  • Liaising with HSS International team members and colleagues across the wider Taylor & Francis Group
  • Chairing and presenting at editorial board meetings, and representing the company at conferences in the region
  • Draft and review publishing contracts and ensure they are renewed in a timely fashion
  • Assisting with new journal proposals and bids
  • Managing general administration of the list
  • Providing appropriate cover in the Head of Portfolio’s absence
  • Qualifications

    What we're looking for :

  • Educated to graduate level or equivalent
  • Previous experience in academic journal publishing, though experience in account management or business development in the publishing industry will also be considered
  • Willingness to work with confidence, flexibility, initiative and independence
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Familiarity with, and an awareness of, academic editors’ and societies’ needs in publishing activities will be an advantage
  • Able to manage a range of duties and maintain focus on deadlines and priorities
  • Ability to work remotely, self-motivated and able to use initiative when necessary
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and adaptable to different work / cultural contexts
  • Excellent eye for detail and able to keep accurate records
  • Work to a high standard, highly professional in all conduct
  • Must have high computer literacy, proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly excel, familiar with online technologies
  • Good team player
  • Flexibility in working hours to liaise with colleagues in other time zones
  • Quick to adapt and learn
  • Kindly note that this is not a writing / journalism / copy-editing position

  • We currently have capacity for this role to be based in either of the following locations : Hong Kong, S.A.R., China, or Singapore.
  • However you must have the right to work and live in the region you reside in.
