Job Description & Summary
In recent years, the Hong Kong Inland Revenue Department ( IRD ) has been deploying more resources on tax controversy and taking a more stringent approach in handling tax disputes with both corporate and individual taxpayers.
Given the adoption of OECD’s action plan on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting ( BEPS ) and the implementation of new tax regulations, taxpayers are facing more challenges and encountering with more tax controversy issues.
To cope with the increasing market demand for tax controversy and dispute resolution services, our Tax Controversy Services ( TCS ) team is expanding and now recruiting experienced talents (preferably those who are familiar with the IRD’s practices and / or with practical experience of dealing with the IRD) to join our TCS team.
Our TCS team consists of ex-officers and tax specialists with strong expertise and experience in handling tax controversy.
We are currently seeking high caliber tax professionals to join us and take part in :
Assisting clients in resolving tax disputes, for example, tax audit and appeal cases, tax enquiries, challenges on the entitlement to treaty benefits;
Formulation of settlement approaches for tax audit and investigation cases;
Negotiation with the IRD’s officers during the course of case resolving;
Handling simple tax audit cases independently with direct partner supervision;
Post-audit restructuring to rectify problems identified during tax audit;
Conducting tax health checks and defense file building;
Assisting clients in obtaining treaty protection or treaty benefits, and defending against any challenges from the IRD;
Developing and maintaining good client relationship at working level; and
Assisting in the practice development for the TCS team and PwC.
A recognized accounting or equivalent degree
Qualified member of a professional accounting body
Total 3- 5 years of experience in Hong Kong profits tax experience, preferably with experience of field audits / tax investigations or other areas of tax controversy
With IRD work experience is a plus, particularly experience in the Field Audit and Investigation Unit, Appeals Section or Treaty Section
Fluent in both written and spoken English, Cantonese and Putonghua
Excellent interpersonal skills would be an advantage
