Associate Director, Business Development Actuary, International Markets

Job Objective :

This role offers an exciting opportunity to be involved in the financial analysis of business development opportunities, including M&A and other new strategic opportunities.

This is a key strategic role on the International Markets team and is vital to supporting the continuous innovation that drives ongoing revenue and profit growth.

The individual filling this role will report to the Head of Business Development for Cigna International Markets.

Job Description :

  • Business developmentFinancial viability assessment of M&A initiatives, determining strategic fit, organizing and conducting financial due diligence for M&A or divestitures as required.
  • Participate in the development of market business plans and initiatives, assessment of new markets, and analysis of business opportunities.

    Perform analysis and assist in recommendations concerning the due diligence process and / or specific deals under review.

    Evaluate and support business cases, measurement and monitoring systems.The scope of strategic initiatives includes both organic and non-organic growth opportunities as well as financial flexibility improvement initiatives.

    Organic growth initiatives may include insurance distribution channel expansion, new market entry, new digital business platform investments, or new business models.

    Non-organic initiatives may include M&A, joint ventures or divestitures. Financial flexibility improvement initiatives might be restructuring projects or similar.

  • Actuarial best practicesThe International Markets actuarial team is responsible for continually improving actuarial standards and practices across the businesses, and this role should actively contribute to that, not just for pricing or business development issues but across other actuarial areas too (valuation, experience studies, models etc).
  • Financial Management Reviews (FMRs)The jobholder would actively participate in FMRs, the biennial reviews of local actuarial teams’ practices and processes.
  • These are on site audits of actuarial functions, with recommendations tracked and shared with the U.S. corporate team.

  • Scope of the roleCigna International Markets covers businesses outside of the U.S., and currently there are operations in China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, New Zealand, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the UK and Europe.
  • Cigna is a successful, growing company and is always exploring opportunities in new markets.Products include personal accident, critical illness, dental, cancer, health indemnity, hospital cash, life, unit-linked, and return of premium.

    These products may involve long term guarantees or be offered on a yearly renewable term basis and to either groups or individuals.

    Distribution channels include telemarketing, affinity, bancassurance, brokers, agents, and online.

    Requirement :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or other related disciplines
  • Fully qualified actuary with FSA, FIA, FIAA, or other equivalent designations is a must
  • Over 8 years of solid working experience in Actuarial within Insurance, Reinsurance, or Consulting settings
  • Solid knowledge in a wide variety of insurance products, and strong technical skills with expert knowledge of pricing methodologies, product development and reserving
  • Demonstrate strong ability in building financial models, expert in Excel
  • Ability to build good relationships with business partners
  • Strong communication, facilitation, interpersonal and leadership skills with a proven ability to influence and motivate others.
  • Able to communicate technical topics with non-financial colleagues.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment, able to travel
  • Good understanding of Cigna's international businesses is a plus
  • Fluent in English
