The primary objective of this role is to help deliver large transactions from a modelling perspective. The role sits within the L&H Structured Solutions (LHSS) where transaction activity varies with client demand during periods of low transaction activity, your time will be spent delivering project work for the MoSes Centre of Excellence (MCOE) team.

This role includes :

  • Working as a team to develop and implement MoSes / RAFM models for both costing large transactions and delivering improvements to the existing MoSes / RAFM valuation models
  • Own the end- to-end modelling process for large transactions, starting with understanding modelling requirements through to delivering a fully tested model which is fit for purpose.
  • This will be a controlled, auditable and robust process which includes reviewing and challenging requirements, developing functional and technical specifications, coding the models, model testing and documentation.

  • Support valuation model developments during periods of lower transaction activity to ensure detailed knowledge of these models as they are the starting point for large transaction modelling
  • Providing strong transaction- and project management
  • Providing guidance and coaching to the wider modelling teams in Asia
  • Fostering a strong team spirit, highly motivated by successful execution

  • About the Team

    You will join the diverse and knowledgeable LHSS team, which is part of Products Underwriting and has several core functions :

  • We provide structured reinsurance & capital management solutions to L&H clients
  • We assume life insurance risk in non-traditional formats
  • We underwrite life insurance-based securitizations, both for Swiss Re and third party clients
  • The LHSS team is comprised of over 30 professionals, in various locations including Zurich, London, Sydney and Hong Kong.

    While the majority are actuaries, a wide variety of professional backgrounds are represented.

    A significant amount of your time will be assigned to the MCoE team who are responsible for creating and maintaining the MoSes actuarial models across 7 Swiss Re Life and Health Reinsurance locations.

    With a current team size of 15 based across 3 locations, the MCoE's remit spans from understanding requirements from our regional stakeholders, through to the development, testing, quality assurance, maintenance and on-going support of MoSes.

    Ensuring close and effective collaboration with team members and colleagues in many different areas located globally will be vital.

    As such, the following will be key :

  • About You

    We would like to hear from you if you have the following qualifications :

    Experienced actuarial modeller with 5+ years experience developing complex actuarial models would be ideal.

  • Previous exposure to the MoSes, RAFM, Risk Agility MoSes and Unify platform is advantageous but is not a prerequisite.
  • Experienced actuaries with a strong modelling aptitude are also encouraged to apply.

  • Experience of playing a key role in a transactions focused team, willingness to work under time pressure with agility to adapt
  • Sound technical actuarial knowledge particularly if transactions related
  • Ability to interpret actuarial model output and identify errors
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with an ability to work and manage stakeholders spread across several locations
  • Part qualified / qualified actuary preferred but is not a prerequisite if extensive experience as an actuarial model developer, particularly cash flow models, can be demonstrated
  • Knowledge of the business in specific markets is beneficial but not required
  • Necessary attributes :

    You will need to apply the rigour needed for detailed modelling, often where no blueprints exist, in a results-based, deadline-intensive environment.
