We are inviting applications for the position of Systems Librarian to plan, set up and develop library systems for the HKUST GZ Library, which is planned to open in the Fall of 2022.
Reporting to the Deputy Director of Library Services at GZ campus, the appointee will be required to station and work in the Mainland, with frequent business travels to Clear Water Bay campus (CWB) as required.
He / she is expected to work closely with the Library systems colleagues in CWB to implement integrated library system and information discovery platform;
set up servers, computing equipment and software; and develop web-based applications to support library services.
Duties
Plan, implement and support the cloud-based integrated library system and information discovery platform;
Set up, develop and maintain a wide spectrum of library applications and repositories running on Linux and Windows virtual servers;
Liaise with other units to develop APIs to integrate between systems;
Develop websites and mobile apps to deliver smart library services and access;
Evaluate, set up and support computing hardware and software for the learning commons, creative workspace and studio, computer classroom, gallery and other technology-enriched facility;
Provide technological support and training to library staff in their operations and workflow; and
Perform other librarian duties as assigned.
Requirements
A master’s degree in Library or information science together with a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science and Engineering;
At least 3 years of post-qualification library systems experience;
Demonstrated understanding of bibliographic metadata standards and diverse functions of integrated library system;
A proven record of successful implementation and development of library applications in an academic library environment;
Strong web-based programming skills using PHP, JavaScript, CSS, SQL and APIs;
Ability to multi-task with effective communication and interpersonal skills; and
Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (Putonghua).
This is a Mainland appointment and the appointee will be offered a contract by HKUST Mainland entity in accordance with the local labor laws and regulations.
Appointment will initially be made on a 2-year contract, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
