The Senior Software Engineer utilizes web and APIs, and third-party software development frameworks to build and support illustration application solutions.

Provides support for design and development and advises a team of local engineers for our Transamerica Life Bermuda (TLB) platform.

Job Description

Primary Responsibilities

  • Programming of calculation modules for Life Insurance (Individual and Annuity)
  • Perform duties of programmer in the application development process including liaison functions between customers (end-users) and other systems personnel in the areas of design, coding, and testing
  • Maintain documentation of the inner workings of the illustration calculation modules
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of software development tools
  • We’re looking for a person who meets these requirements and qualifications :

  • Mathematical or actuarial background (highly desirable) and problem-solving ability
  • At least 3-5 years of technical programming experience
  • 3-5 years of Core Java or .Net experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using Windows development tools, including :
  • C / C++
  • Visual Basic (or Excel Macros)
  • 3 years’ experience with .NET Core or .NET Framework development
  • Complex insurance Product knowledge is a plus (experience working with life product lines e.g., universal, IUL and term products)
  • Experience with Microservices and REST based API development
  • Ability to write clear pseudo-code for other developers to work from
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure and as a team player
  • Attention to detail and results oriented, with a strong customer focus
  • Demonstrated Ability to step up, tune in and be accountable for work assignments
  • Work outside of normal business hours may be required, and some occasional travel
  • Desirable Characteristics

  • University degree with math or actuarial major highly desirable
  • Maintenance and implementation experience relative to Illustration software is a plus
  • Insurance sector experience is a plus
  • Technical User Interface (UI) experience is a plus
  • One year of development experience with cloud services (e.g. AWS / Azure) is a plus
  • Professional designation (e.g. FLMI, etc.) is a plus
  • Knowledge of developing distributed computing (MS HPC, Sagemaker, Spark) is a plus
  • Work collaboratively with other development staff, including contract and offshore Software Engineers, and business product owners in an agile environment
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for a wide range of areas, applications, and technologies and mentor other team members in design / coding standards
  • Utilize third-party software development frameworks, open-source libraries, and APIs to develop basic illustration application solutions.
  • Please note that the compensation information that follows is a good faith estimate for this position only and is provided pursuant to the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and Equal Pay Transparency Rules.

    It is estimated based on what a successful Colorado applicant might be paid. It assumes that the successful candidate will be in Colorado or perform the position from Colorado.

    Similar positions located outside of Colorado will not necessarily receive the same compensation.

    Compensation :

    The salary for this position generally ranges between $84,000 - $111,000. This range is an estimate, based on potential employee qualifications, operational needs and other considerations permitted by law.

    The range may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Rule 4.1.2.

    Bonus Eligibility :

    This position is also typically eligible for an annual bonus based on the Company Bonus Plan / Individual Performance and is at Company Discretion at a rate of 10.0%.
