Job Description : Senior Network Manager, Hong Kong / Asia

The Network & Counterparty Relationship Management (NCRM) group is responsible for managing Brown Brothers Harriman’s network of subcustodians and correspondent bank relationships for cash and securities in over 90 markets and providing value to both external and internal clients through market expertise and delivery of market information.

The group is comprised of Bank Relationship Management, Market Information, Direct Client Consultancy and Risk and Compliance teams.

The group is located globally, in Boston, New York, London and Hong Kong.

Brown Brothers Harriman is currently recruiting a Senior Network Manager in Asia to join NCRM. The NCRM team engages directly with the local banks and other local market participants to ensure that our client products and servicing reflects a deep understanding of the markets in our global custody network.

In this role you will be responsible for keeping abreast of market and regulatory developments and translating that expertise into insights that can be shared with internal and external clients, prospects and other market counterparts.

Through information accessed through our sub custodian and correspondent bank relationships, the Senior Network Manager is responsible for communicating market updates directly to our key clients both in the form of regular relationship dialogue, hosted client conference calls and through the maintenance of BBH’s market information and global risk products

This role requires strong analytical, written and oral communication skills, and there is a particular emphasis on the analysis of information related to market practices and regulatory changes and the production of insightful communications to external clients.

The Senior Network Manager is responsible for coordination with internal groups (including Service Delivery, product teams, Relationship Management, Compliance, and Legal) to ensure that our market insights appropriately reflect an understanding of markets, clients, BBH operating models, etc.

  • Key responsibilities include :
  • Market Intelligence and Product Support

  • Maintain in depth knowledge of local market practices and regulations
  • Advise internal departments of market changes in a timely manner
  • Participate in industry working groups in Asia as a markets specialist and liaison
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of market practices and procedures to be able to respond to questions received from internal and external clients
  • Draft and issue urgent publications on market events impacting our client’s investment
  • Relationship Management

  • Act as a primary relationship contact for assigned sub custodians banks
  • Conduct regular and ongoing monitoring and service levels with sub custodian banks
  • Conduct annual local market due diligence and arrange meetings with sub custodian banks (remote conference / video calls, visits)
  • Coordinate efforts internally when regulatory or market changes require changes in processes and support; work closely with the Network Management group
  • Serve as an escalation point for internal service delivery teams to ensure service levels are followed and market risks are mitigated.
  • Act as a positive role model and mentor for the Network team.
  • Act as a Network escalation point for internal business lines on market and sub custodian related matters.
  • Identify new opportunities and improved processing efficiencies, through an understanding of industry best practices
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team-oriented work environment.
  • Client Service

  • Synthesize, package and deliver value added market intelligence information to Network clients in collaboration with the Markets teams
  • Participate in internal working groups when regulatory or market changes require changes in processes and support; work closely with the Network Management group
  • Participate in client calls and meetings to provide market updates and insights to showcase expertise
  • Assist Client Relationship Managers to grow new business with existing clients and prospects by participating in due diligence meetings, RFPs, prospect sales presentations.
  • Risk Management

  • Identify market risks and develop ways to mitigate them
  • Collaborate with internal departments in the development of operational workflows and assessment of operational risk considerations.
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in business, finance or English.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in the financial services industry, including knowledge of securities market activities, products and market infrastructure entities.
  • Global Custody Experience at least 8 years in industry / Network experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of securities and foreign exchange markets, cash clearing and securities market regulations, settlement and payment systems.
  • Knowledge of the external competitive environment for the industry.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships.
  • Strong analytical skills as well as written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid custody or transaction banking background and the ability to draw connections between market regulation and operational processes.
  • Solid background and experience in risk management, compliance and control practices (operational and market based)
  • Leader that collaborates well in a global team environment to ensure department and firm success.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities in order to work quickly and accurately under pressure.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and solve problems, based on a balance of facts, experience, common sense.
  • Fluency in Mandarin, a plus.
  • Some business travel may be required (unlikely in 2022).
