The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is a world-renowned international research university. The Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China officially approved the preparatory status of HKUST(GZ) in September 2019.

The GZ campus covers 1.13 square kilometers and the first phase of construction is expected to be completed in 2022. At steady state, the number of undergraduate and postgraduate students will reach a total of 10,000.

The intended areas of focus in the GZ Campus will be thematic and cross-disciplinary in nature, synergistic with HKUST without overlapping academic degrees or structures.

There will be four Academic Hubs (equivalent to schools) with 16 Thrust Areas (equivalent to departments).

The Role

The University is looking for applicants with management experience in Building Maintenance. The appointee will oversee all aspects of building maintenance on the new Guangzhou campus with an aim to provide professional services for campus users and maintenance of campus assets.

Reporting to the Head of Campus Management, the appointee will be responsible for managing and overseeing the maintenance team for all maintenance, daily operations, and trade issues.


The appointee’s duties include the following :

  • organize and manage repairs and maintenance activities including preventative, scheduled, and emergency / requested maintenance;
  • oversee all facets of the daily operations of in-house team and outsource service providers;
  • provide 24-hour emergency response; and
  • ensure compliance with the environmental, legal and safety policies.
  • The appointee will be stationed in the HKUST(GZ) campus and may be required to attend activities scheduled outside regular office hours occasionally.

    For integration and coherence of both campuses of HKUST, the appointee may be required to travel to the Clear Water Bay campus in Hong Kong from time to time, as needed.

    Qualification Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in building technology, construction, building surveying, estate management with at least 10 years of post-qualification experience in building maintenance;
  • Experience in leading a team of staff and contractors to accomplish high standards in facilities services / landscaping;
  • Strong leadership and excellent supervisory skills to lead, guide and motivate subordinates;
  • Team player with a strong sense of responsibility, and excellent communication skills to interact effectively with all levels of people;
  • A good command of written English and Chinese (proficiency in both Putonghua and Cantonese preferred).
  • This is a Mainland appointment, and the appointee will be offered a contract by HKUST Mainland entity in accordance with the Mainland labor laws and regulations.

    Appointment will initially be made on a 3-year contract, renewable subject to mutual agreement. Salary is highly competitive and will be commensurate with appointee’s professional qualifications and experiences.
