Summary

The Associate Director Strategy & M&A is responsible for driving the development of corporate strategy to scope, define & prioritize strategic opportunities in a selection of Asian markets and to develop appropriate strategies (organic and / or inorganic) to draft and fine tune the Asia’s Strategic Road Map ( ASRM ) vision.

This position will work with other functions and leads the business case development on assigned initiatives and coordinate regional deal-making process, especially related to deal evaluation and execution phases, in strong & full liaison with Regional Strategy teams.

Other projects related to business intelligence and best practice. New business models as well as strategic planning directions and strategies.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Scope, define & prioritize ASRM opportunities and develop appropriate strategy

  • Lead market / competitive landscaping exercise & integrate consumer landscaping (with Marketing team) to scope, define & prioritize business opportunities for the assigned markets in Asia
  • Act as the internal expert of these markets within PR Asia by constantly updating information through external resources (3rd party reports, market intelligence agencies, etc.
  • as well as frequent market visits to collect first-hand information (trade interviews, consumer groups, etc.)

  • Facilitate management discussion and engagement to shape appropriate strategies (organic and / or inorganic approach)
  • 2. Lead the business case development, illustrate viable options on & support relevant ASRM initiatives

  • Lead and oversee the development and implementation of assigned initiatives and explore other relevant initiative(s), not already scoped.
  • Work with Brand Design, who will lead brand, concept & product development
  • Work with Production team, who will lead supply chain, COGS & upstream value chain, & with Commercial team, who will lead the RTM and downstream value chain, to reach an appropriate P&L as well as sounding business case that maximize the potential of the initiatives
  • 3. Manage market / competitive intelligence reports, tracking system for Asia

  • Develop an approach as well as concrete deliverables to enhance the gathering and analysis of competitive intelligence in all key Asian markets (including but not limited to a competitive watch list for M&A / partnership opportunities for all Asian markets)
  • Establish a network of information sources, covering desktop research / third-party agencies / market fieldwork, to collect and crosscheck the information
  • Be responsible for the redaction as well as the communication of the reports
  • 4. Facilitate & orchestrate the Strategic Planning Process in Asia

  • Liaise with Paris HQ and facilitate with all market companies in Asia in the next Strategic Planning process
  • Identify soft spots & propose process improvement (if any)
  • Take inputs and guidance from the regional management, summarize & synthesize the plans of market companies to create the Asia Strategic Plan
  • 5. Deal evaluation and execution

  • Identify key questions to be answered during due diligence
  • Responsible for "on the ground" intelligence collection during the due diligence process, i.e. manufacturing plant visits, channel interviews etc.
  • Oversee external advisors during diligence to ensure a holistic process and sense-check advisors' findings from due diligence
  • Accountable for transaction financial modelling, incorporating financial due diligence findings and business projection management;
  • responsible for overall valuation

  • Support Global M&A team to recap the investment case (modelling, memos. )
  • Co-lead or participate in deal negotiations with target
  • 6. Deal sourcing and exploration

  • Strongly assist in deal opportunity sourcing (maintaining relationship with deals advisors in the region, networking with potential targets)
  • Leverage a wide range of information sources and collect market intelligence on targets, incl. interviewing suppliers, customers etc.
  • Work with Regional Strategy Team to evaluate targets and build strategic business cases for review by regional & global leadership (CODI, Asia Council)
  • Proactively communicate and collaborate with Global M&A team on high potential opportunities
  • 7. Other ad hoc projects as required

    Skills / Qualifications / Experience :

  • 5+ year experience in strategy consulting or in-house corporate strategy in large MNC
  • Expertise in development of financial model to reflect detailed business case assumptions with the flexibility to run scenario / sensitivities
  • Extensive transaction execution experience either in an investment bank, transaction services firm or corporate, covering relevant sectors
  • Comprehensive knowledge of full M&A process including experience in managing external advisors
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance or Business studies or other related discipline
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Familiar with Power BI
  • Asian Language skills
  • Willingness to travel
