The opportunity

this is a newly created role to lead and support BU specific and regional initiatives to both optimize current health business and prepare the business for the future growth projected within the health book of business over the next five years, with a particular focus on Emerging markets.

These initiatives fall into three distinct categories :

Strategic development and implementation of new health & protection propositions including the operating models required to implement these products either internally or via partners

Medical reimbursement capabilities to focus on core earnings growth including operational impacts such as claims platforms, administration by third party administrators (TPAs) and network providers

Medical in-force management initiatives which consist of both alternate pricing and underwriting models and how they connect to operations specific to the health business

Each of these three areas will drive both earnings uplift as well as new business growth, in some cases immediately after launch based on the non-participating nature of many of the products.

Manulife Asia’s Health business consists of 2 distinct businesses : lump sum benefit products (ie Accident and Health) and Medical Reimbursement products (ie Indemnity).

These businesses combined represent significant APE and NBV growing at double digits . All markets have A&H products and several markets also have reimbursement medical businesses, notably Indonesia, Hong Kong and Vietnam.

You will manage and maintain a substantial network across BUs and Functions to accelerate in the procurement, classification and usage of data and information best needed to move the health business forward both strategically and operationally.

Deep subject mater expertise across Manulife will be an advantage.

This role requires strong engagement with key internal stakeholders (employees, regional / global partners and functional leads) in the form of project management and strategic consolidation as well as the experience managing external stakeholders in the Manulife environment.

A high degree of problem solving is a must, along with the ability to set clear objectives for teams and drive alignment across specific projects.


Serve as project lead and / or coordinator for BU health and regional projects; especially those focused on financials and strategy development

Develop and standardize health metrics and data collection & coordination and report development and processes

Provide leadership and champion health products and propositions through the health strategy work as well as manage, contribute and coordinate timelines and deliverables for the health strategy

Communication of the health strategic plan and the progress against set goals to local stakeholders

Role model the six values to drive the creation of a new culture across the Health business.

Partner with key stakeholders across local, regional and global teams to enhance and enable capabilities within the business.

Establish and build internal relationships with individuals and groups as stakeholder management to provide regular updates on the performance of the health business

Reports to Head of Health, Asia with strong internal stakeholder management required across other BUs and functions dependent on the initiatives in place.

Self-starter and ability to work independently upon clarity of direction

Min 10 years working experience in insurance, consulting, employee benefits operations or broking

Manulife experience a plus, preferably working in a regional position previously with own internal network to accelerate health agenda

Academic Qualifications : University degree or higher, with preference to degree in healthcare, medicine or financial related field (Actuary, M.

D., Public Health, etc.)
