The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST (GZ)) is seeking a seasoned professional to lead the project development team in the design management and implementation of campus facility of both technical aspect and system sustainability;
and to develop and maintain all designs and applications to ensure suitability and optimum running life cycle for meeting faculty requirements.
The appointee will be required to station and work in the Mainland, initially in Nansha, with frequent business travels to Clear Water Bay campus as required.
a. Assist the Director in managing and planning all design issues in relation to the campus development to ensure projects are accomplished on time, within budget and up to the required quality in accordance with the local and statutory regulations;
b. Liaise with all internal and external stakeholders in accomplishing project objectives; and provide technical support and expert advice on discipline-related issues to different stakeholders;
c. Take the lead of all design consultants and local design institutes on consolidating project requirements from various stakeholders to finalize project briefs, and to produce conceptual, preliminary and detailed designs;
d. Coordinate with consultants, government departments and relevant organizations on project planning and design implementation;
e. Prepare tender / construction documents, and monitor procurement and construction process;
f. Handle improvement and minor works, including term contracts arrangement, defects-rectification work, fitting out, and alteration, produce drawing / tender documents / graphics for presentation and the selection / appointment of contractor upon projects completion;
g. Ensure compliance with the HKUST’s guidelines and requirements for entire campus development.
Qualifications & Experiences
a. A bachelor’s degree or above in Architecture, Building Surveyor, Building Services Engineering or related discipline;
professional qualification (e.g. HKIA, HKIE, CIBSE, CIOB) is desirable. Higher qualification in project management or business management is preferred;
b. A minimum of 15 years’ relevant working experience in project management of building, infrastructure development and on site co-ordination of building projects.
Experience in developing and managing R&D offices, university / institutional buildings, hospital, and laboratory is preferred;
c. Experience in managing projects from inception to completion including handover;
d. Experience in managing international design consultants / local design institutes, and administration of large scale projects;
e. Knowledge of local statutory requirements / regulations and submission procedures for development project in the Mainland;
f. Good leadership, problem solving skill and interpersonal skill;
g. Good command of spoken and written English and Chinese (Putonghua); and be able to read and write simplified Chinese;
h. Uncompromised integrity
i. Conversant with graphics presentation tools and software such as MS Visio, Adobe, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, AutoCAD, Primavera, and Microsoft Project will be an advantage.
Terms of Appointment
This is a Mainland appointment and the appointee will be offered a contract by the HKUST Mainland entity in accordance with the local labor laws and regulations.
Appointment will initially be made on a 3-year contract, renewable on mutual agreement.
