4 Job Openings are available as follows :
Opening 1
Principal Investigator : Professor Raymond Tong
Project Title / Lab Name : Soft Robotics for Upper-Limb andLower-Limb Rehabilitation
Abstract / Description :
This project aims to develop a 3D-printed soft robotic(hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder, knee, ankle) for rehabilitation trainingbased on the technology in Soft-Elastic Composite Actuator and intention-drivencontrol system to facilitate neuroplasticity in the brain.
The objectives ofthis project are : (i) to facilitate better hand, upper limb and lower limb recoveryon more stroke survivors and elderly in society with the soft robotic design,(ii) to 3D-print soft robotics with our advanced design and control algorithmto provide more function tasks training.
Stroke remains the global leading causes of long-termdisabilities. As a result, the role of rehabilitation robotics becomesincreasingly prominent in enhancing the quality of life(QOL) of the strokesurvivors.
However, current metal robotic system seems to be very restricted indesign due to the motor size and weight. This limitation also affects thetraining tasks that can be done using the device.
Soft robotics, on the otherhand is a new approach, which are more compliant and can provide more degree offreedoms to generate more upper limb functions.
This project will continuouslysupport the leading role in rehabilitation robotic development; and launch thenew advanced healthcare products and services in the region and overseas.
Job Requirements :
Soft robotsdesign; Signal processing; Control algorithm design; or Stroke rehabilitation.

Principal Investigator : Professor Raymond Tong
Project Title / Lab Name : Simultaneous Dual-Task CyclingExercise Training on Cognitive Function for the Elderly
Abstract / Description :
Cognitive decline is related to ageing, which can progressto become mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia. Hong Kong is facing theageing population challenge and we would like to keep the elderly to have agood quality of life and independence.
Maintaining cognitive function will beessential and important. Regular exercise has been shown to provide somecognitive benefits in healthy and cognitively impaired elderly, but thetraining type and intensity are remaining vary and unclear.
Dual-task cognitivetraining software (game, VR or AR) has also shown a positive benefit tocognitive function in the elderly.
Recent studies showed that combinedexercise-cognitive simultaneously has better beneficial effects on cognitivefunction.
Cycling is a safe aerobic exercise. The new system can adjust thetraining intensity based on the real-time muscle activities (electromyography,EMG) to provide aerobic exercise, and together with simultaneous dual-taskcognitive training.
It should provide an effective and safe platform for theelderly to improve their cognitive function. The system will be easy to installand the subject can safely conduct the exercise without involving a lot ofmanpower, which will be cost effective in providing a better quality ofhealthcare training in promoting cognitive health.
Job Requirements :
Cognitive; Signal processing; Control algorithm design; or Strokerehabilitation.
