The Institute of Future Cities is a multidisciplinary research platform to facilitate innovative, collaborative and / or comparative research work and to serve as a learning site on research methodologies and consultation approaches in Hong Kong, the Pearl River Delta and beyond.

It involves research studies related to urban sustainability and its implications on urban planning and design.

We are looking for suitably qualified and energetic researcher / scholar to join our existing team.

  • Applicant should have (i) a PhD degree in Architecture / Urban Planning, Geography, Earth System Science, Environmental Health or related fields;
  • ii) the ability to work with large data sets, preferably with expertise knowledge and technique of applied remote sensing and big data / open data informatics;
  • iii) at least two to three years' research experience in sustainable urban or built environment research, preferably in the contexts of urban science;
  • iv) at least two SCI journal publications as first author; (v) demonstrated experience of working with researchers using remote sensing technology or Geographic Information System analytics to process and develop land use land cover dataset for planning implementation;
  • vi) excellent technical, organizational, written and spoken communication skills and team sprits; and (vii) the ability to work independently and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, and work with external parties.

    The appointee will develop an urban form and urban greenery database and advance knowledge of fast urbanization and sustainable development especially for big cities and metropolitan urban regions.

    He / She is expected to communicate and collaborate effectively with other related research teams to facilitate inter-faculty, inter-

  • disciplinary and innovative research with the international and interdisciplinary partners. He / She will be responsible for (a) preparing research grants;
  • b) preparing academic publications including journal papers and reports to achieve milestones and deliverables; (c) liaising with different research teams;
  • and (d) undertaking teaching duties related to the project.

    Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for one year, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
