Advise on legal aspects of Alibaba Group’s international expansion of current and proposed new e-commerce offerings.
Provide advice to business teams on legal aspects of the implementation of commercial agreements, business models and strategies, business operations, marketing activities, and product offerings.
Research local laws and regulations in foreign jurisdictions and manage outside counsel.
Provide advice on cross border logistics, import / export and payment acceptance models and issues.
Negotiate, draft and review contracts and commercial agreements.
Support commercial cooperation aspects of pending M&A matters as well as post-closing integration of acquired entities and businesses.
Legal license from a relevant jurisdiction.
For senior legal counsel, 10+ years, and for legal counsel, 7+ years of post-qualification experience at a leading law firm and / or corporation.
In-house experience is welcome, but not mandatory.
Experience with e-commerce and / or cross border trade transactions (import / export, logistics, payments etc) preferred.
English and Chinese language proficiency (i.e. ability to hold business meetings in Chinese, and reading and writing in Chinese).
For senior legal counsel, experience in recruiting, mentoring and managing a legal team is preferred. For legal counsel, this is not a requirement.
Highly-motivated and able to work independently and under pressure.
Sincere interest in technology, innovation and business. Strong commercial sense with solid foundation in legal training.
High integrity and desire to collaborate with others.
Open to frequent international travel. Legal team members based outside of Hangzhou will be required to be based in Hangzhou for the first few months and travel frequently to Hangzhou afterwards.
