What part will you play?
The Security Director in Asia Pacific will play a key role in setting the strategic direction of how CNN protects and supports its workforce across the region and around the world.
You will advise the CNN International Leadership team on all matters relating to safeguarding our security in the field including risk assessments, identifying potential threat levels and providing external intelligence.
Working in partnership with newsgathering and other departments, you will be responsible from a safety and security perspective for planning and coordinating our newsgathering and production efforts.
You will also work with security colleagues in ensuring a safe working environment for our staff in bureaus around the region.
You will be heavily involved in the development of stories which involve trips to hostile environments and will frequently accompany teams into the field to provide guidance and protection.
In addition to personnel, you will also help in the safe deployment of equipment. Much of what you do will be responding to breaking news where the ability to act with speed is essential.
Following deployments, managers will expect a full debrief from you from a safety perspective. Your duties will involve being responsible for establishing a network of SRS specialists in key counties in the APAC region.
These are people whom we can call upon in a freelance capacity to provide extra cover should that be required.
Your role will ensure that staff in APAC are properly trained for operating in hostile environments. You will also ensure that our safety equipment is managed to a high standard at the APAC HQ in Hong Kong and in regional bureaus.
Whilst reporting to the VP, Business Operations & Administration based in Atlanta, this role will report indirectly to the VP and Hong Kong Bureau Chief .
In addition, whilst Hong Kong is the base for this role, you could be asked to travel anywhere in the world at short notice.
You will also be required to oversee / track the movement of colleagues outside of APAC as part of 24 hour safety and security coverage.

Oversight of movements while teams are deployed, ensuring the execution of the plan or making adjustments as necessary in real-
time, with consideration of editorial needs as well as conditions on the ground
Negotiate the best value to CNN on training and equipment.
