Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management.

The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, market and reputation risks.

All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Stress Testing Manager, Climate Risk Execution Wholesale Credit and Market Risk ASP.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Market and economics : Contribute to regular market and economic analyses to ensure that our stress scenario library is suited for pro-active risk management.
  • Lead / Support the calibration of relevant stress and climate risk scenarios

  • Risk management : Help senior member of the team form a judgment on the appropriateness of positions vs. risk appetite using stress results computed by numerous teams across the Group.
  • Help risk appetite definition. Transform Senior Management strategy and questions into practical stress testing approach to improve risk-reward decisions.

    Take initiatives to develop innovative solutions

  • Regulation and methodology : Guide the model / methodology development team to develop robust tools and infrastructure.
  • Work closely with Strategic Planning and Stress Testing team and Risk Transformation team to establish and run appropriate policy, porgramme governance and risk disclosure.

    Contribute and take part of the responsibility for ensuring that stressed risk measures are in line with best practice and meet regulatory requirements

  • Expertise : Be part of the team that is the main point of contact in Wholesale Credit and Market Risk (WMR) relating to Climate and Transition Risk delivery and stress testing questions coming from relevant country, regional and group WMR stakeholders and regulators.
  • Drive the incentive and provide directions to the local sites so that (i) stress testing is used appropriately by risk managers for decision making, (ii) vulnerabilities in the portfolio are well understood by senior management

    Requirements

  • University degree and / or post graduate qualification with a relevant quantitative content
  • Previous experience in risk management for credit risk, market risk and / or traded credit risk
  • Previous exposure to large projects involving technical IT considerations
  • Understanding of how the Risk function operates and the ability to speak confidently on behalf of Risk
  • Understanding of how risk models impact the financial position of HSBC and the controls, governance and oversight required to achieve this
  • Thorough understanding of advanced risk management techniques across a diverse portfolio of assets
  • Good understanding of financial products including derivatives, macro-economics, econometrics and financial markets
  • Strong knowledge of financial markets and business principles
  • Financial engineering skills and experience in building credit or market models. Knowledge of VBA is necessary.
  • Knowledge of the external environment in relation to Climate Risk regulatory, competition, economics, etc advantageous
  • Advanced understanding of reporting requirements, data lineage, architecture within the bank will be advantageous
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and interpersonal are essential. Ability to articulate complex ideas in a clear manner
  • Ability to make decisions quickly is a wide range of field : risk management, technical and governance related
  • Self-starter, who can think proactively. Demonstrate the ability to learn abstract concepts and to operate effectively against
  • To be considered for this role, the relevant rights to work in Hong Kong is required.
