Position Overview

BSR’s HERproject is a collaborative initiative that strives to empower low-income women working in global supply chains.

Bringing together global brands, their suppliers, and local NGOs, HERproject drives impact for women and business via workplace-

based interventions on health, financial inclusion, and gender equality. Since its inception in 2007, HERproject has worked in more than 620 workplaces across 14 countries and has increased the well-

being, confidence, and economic potential of more than 700,000 women.

The Manager will be key to the successful implementation and growth of HERproject, working with a dynamic, global team. The Manager will be responsible for leading implementation of HERproject activities in one or more of the HERproject implementation countries, which involves developing and maintaining strong and positive relationships with local partners, companies, industry associations, donors, and other key stakeholders.

The manager will actively contribute to global HERproject team efforts around reporting, learning, research and analysis, resource mobilization, communications and influence, team management, and fundraising from donors and companies.

The manager will also contribute to BSR’s broader work on women’s empowerment.

BSR is seeking an energetic, entrepreneurial individual with a relevant background and a passion for leveraging business to promote women’s empowerment, social justice, and sustainability.

Previous experience and significant interest in women’s empowerment; women’s health and financial inclusion; ending gender-

based violence; and / or global supply chains is highly preferred. Prior experience working with the private sector is essential to this role.

The position is full time. It is based in Hong Kong with extensive overseas travel of up to 30 percent.


  • Program management : The manager will be responsible for overseeing implementation of program activities in one or more priority HERproject countries and working with our corporate, NGO, and research partners in the region.
  • The Associate should be ready to travel frequently on weeklong or longer trips to the region, often on his / her own, and should expect travel up to 30 percent of total work time.

  • Private sector engagement : The manager will work with the HERproject management team to develop and strengthen private sector partnerships.
  • These could be in the form of technical, financial, or implementation focused collaborations with companies.

  • Monitoring, evaluation, and learning : The manager will be responsible for supporting the monitoring and evaluation practices associated with the program, including capturing, analyzing, and disseminating program learnings and developing new program approaches to strengthen impact.
  • Stakeholder engagement and advocacy : The manager will manage existing and new stakeholder and partner relationships.
  • Communications and events : The manager will stay abreast of key events related to his or her areas of focus, and develop and execute on a communications plan to strengthen the influence of HERproject externally.
  • Research and publications : The manager will lead desk-based and field-based research and produce written deliverables in the form of blogs, progress reports, and occasionally longer publications, such as research reports and white papers.
  • Other responsibilities : The manager may also be expected at times to contribute to other areas of work based on availability and BSR need.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum five years’ relevant work experience, preferably in international development and / or responsible business. Experience working with business is required and experience working in a public-
  • private partnership environment is desirable.

  • Strong project and team management skills, including managing teams and projects distributed in multiple geographies.
  • Knowledge of, or experience in, supply chain issues, women’s empowerment, and gender equality.
  • Exceptional research and writing skills in English
  • Practical field experience working and / or living abroad in a middle- or low-income country or countries strongly preferred.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, including the ability to meet stringent deadlines, communicate progress on projects or event planning, and work with managers / directors to coordinate multiple projects concurrently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for working with both internal and external clients.
  • High degree of self-control and self-motivation toward excellent deliverables and strong interest in sustainability issues and role of business in creating a just and sustainable world.
