Lead Editor, Hong Kong Lawyer (12 month contract)

Position Summary

The Hong Kong Lawyer, the official publication of the Law Society of Hong Kong is seeking a full-time lead editor based in Hong Kong.

The role involves working with the Law Society to set the editorial tone and direction of the monthly publication, commissioning content, writing at least one feature a month, and working with the design and production team to produce the magazine.

The Lead Editor will also be responsible for keeping the Hong Kong Lawyer website updated and sending out weekly newsletter.

A law degree is a requirement, and a legal background is a massive plus.

Role Responsibilities

  • Work with the Law Society to set the editorial direction of the publication
  • Write at least one feature a month
  • Commission content for the magazine from lawyers, freelancers and other sources
  • Oversee the production and design of the magazine
  • Keep the website updated and send out weekly newsletters
  • Qualifications and Experience Required

  • ALaw degree is a requirement, legal experience is a plus
  • At least 2 years of editorial experience, particularly in an editor role
  • Able to work quickly and cope with occasional pressure situations
  • Able to stick to hard deadlines
  • Able to balance the needs of multiple stakeholders the Law Society and Thomson Reuters
  • The ability to write and speak English at a native or bilingual level is a must; some proficiency in speaking Cantonese and writing in traditional Chinese is a big plus
