Competitive Intelligence Manager The competitive intelligence (CI) role is critical to the firm’s executive leadership, as it requires a strategic thinker to assess the meaning and impact of competitor actions, and to relay the implications of these events to senior stakeholders across the firm.

The ideal candidate has a combined researcher / analytical skill set, and is able to synthesize information from multiple sources into coherent deliverables which guide leadership in their decision making.

Working individually and within teams, the CI Manager will manage multiple projects, prepare strategic assessments of key competitors and market segments, respond to ad-

hoc requests on competitive and strategic issues, and communicate with all levels of management across the firm. Essential Functions of the Job : The competitive intelligence manager is a member of the Global CI Team.

Key responsibilities include :

  • Manage and execute deliverables that inform internal stakeholders on the competitor intelligence environment and trends across the audit, tax and advisory market space.
  • Coverage across all geographies with particular focus on Asia-Pacific. Stakeholder needs to include : Measurement of the competitive performance, including revenues and market share (IPO, Audit, M&A) Research and insights on a wide range of market issues, such as emerging technologies, alliances and acquisitions, geopolitical risk, startup ecosystems

  • Undertake primary and secondary research as appropriate adhering to the CI Code of Conduct and global EY quality assurance standards
  • Share time and effort equally between Asia-Pacific CI regional needs and contributions to global projects
  • Actively participate on the global CI team; Operate in a virtual teaming environment contributing as required across multiple deliverables Analytical / Decision Making Responsibilities : The role of the competitive intelligence manager is one that is highly analytical.

    The CI manager will be responsible for providing analysis, insights and perspectives related to competitive activities worldwide.

    The CI manager will work independently to manage regular deliverables and tasks as well as respond to ad-hoc requests. Most work will require independent thinking, interpretation and judgment.

    Supervision Responsibilities : This is primarily an individual contributor role. There are no direct supervisory responsibilities, although it is expected that the Competitive Intelligence Manager will coach, mentor and provide feedback to junior staff within the Global CI team.

    The Competitive Intelligence Manager will be part of the Global CI Team but will operate independently and with good judgement on complex and difficult assignments.

    Knowledge and Skills Requirements :

  • Good analytical skills
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a CI or related role
  • A keen understanding of the business environment and cultures across Asia-Pacific
  • Strong primary intelligence collection skills (i.e. elicitation skills)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Willing to be flexible to meet project deadlines
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to network within EY and outside the organization
  • Ability to comfortably connect with executive leadership
  • Exposure to research databases is a definite plus
  • Very strong Excel, PowerPoint skills
  • Other Requirements : Job Requirements : Education : Bachelor’s degree or (local) equivalent required. Experience :

  • At least 5-10 years of experience in a CI or related role
  • Strong primary intelligence collection skills (i.e. elicitation skills)
  • Knowledge of professional services market preferred
