A position of Post-doctoral Fellow or Research Assistant is available in the IAS HKUST - Scripps R&D Laboratory to conduct research projects in biomedical sciences co-

supervised by Prof. Paul Schimmel (The Scripps Research Institute; HKUST IAS Visiting Professor) and Prof. Mingjie Zhang (Kerry Holdings Professor of Science and Chair Professor of Life Science of HKUST).

The appointee will study novel structures and functions of aminoacyl tRNA synthetases (AARS) and elucidate the underlying biology.

He / She will have cooperation opportunities with the US biotech industry for development of AARS-related biologic therapeutics.

Applicants for the Post-doctoral Fellow position should have a PhD degree in biochemistry / biological sciences or a related discipline with solid laboratory experience and background in protein science.

Candidates with experience in structural biology are preferred. The successful candidate should be capable of working independently and have strong analytical skills.

Applicants for the Research Assistant position should have a bachelor’s or a master’s degree with some laboratory experience in biochemistry / biological sciences or related disciplines.

Practical experience in protein expression and purification techniques is desirable. (Duration : 1 year, renewable)

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided.
