    About the Team

    The GSMA Operations department is responsible for the operational delivery of all event and exhibition components of the three Mobile World Congress events plus the Mobile 360 event series.

    Our events range from 150 attendees at our m360 event in Brussels to the 108,000 attendees at our flagship MWC event in Barcelona.

    Our Asia event, now based in Shanghai, has grown considerably over the past 8 years, attracting more than 60,000 attendees, and 550 exhibitors in 2018.

    We work and partner - with leading industry vendors around the globe to deliver innovative and creative solutions that make a real difference to our attendees.

    We provide platforms that enable our members (telecom operators) and other players in the mobile ecosystem to meet face to face and conduct business.

    With just under 20 permanent team members spread across our offices in Europe, Atlanta, Hong Kong and Shanghai, the event operations team have responsibility from briefing through to onsite delivery of events including Awards programmes, Conference plenary sessions for over 2000 people, Seminars, Networking events and many others.

    About the Role

    The role will entail the pre-planning and onsite execution of our events. The role involves supporting and managing internal and external stakeholders through the process of delivering events onsite at MWC Shanghai.

    This includes : typical project management responsibilities such as creating and managing project timelines, budgets, procurement process (including negotiation and closing contracts) and updating and supporting the Senior Project Manager and Head of Event Operations.

    On an operational level, the person in this role will need to engage with all departments and suppliers to manage logistical aspects of the project such as security, catering, hostesses, AV production, and risk assessment and management.

    On a client-management level, the person will ensure our clients (and vendors) adhere by the rules and guidelines of the GSMA and MWC Shanghai, as well as those of our venues, while maintaining a positive, collaborative relationship with all parties.

    This client-facing role requires the ability to think creatively and strategically, to implement innovative solutions to operational and client management challenges, and help to develop new opportunities for growth and development of the show.

    The Operations team, and this role specifically, has responsibility for a wide variety of events, including conferences, high-

    level executive meetings, awards ceremonies and various social events.

    About You

    A professional background in the corporate B2B event industry is required- this may be from agency, client-side, or other fields, but you should have experience delivering high-

    quality B2B events in the Asia (preferably China) region. This role requires fluent Mandarin and English.

    You should have strong multi-tasking skills, with the ability to plan a number of events and activities simultaneously. You will have been involved in project management, operational planning, and onsite logistics, and can demonstrate the ability to manage budget and timelines.

    A certification in project management is a benefit to you, but not essential.

    You should have good negotiation skills, and experience managing vendors at all stages of a project. You will be able to present ideas, budgets and project updates in a clear and confident manner.

    It is important that you are able to demonstrate your ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines as necessary.

    GSMA is a matrix organization, with multiple project stakeholders, therefore you need to have good interpersonal skills and be able to effectively communicate with all level of employees, customers, suppliers, and senior management, including C-suites.

    You will be responsible for managing your own workload independently, and it is essential that your reporting is clear, concise and accurate.
