    The role

    This is an exciting opportunity for an Associate (Environmental) to join a leading infrastructure consultancy and contribute to the growth and development of a business with a reputation for technical excellence and strong client relationships.

    Primary Purpose of the Position :

    The Associate (Environmental) will base in Hong Kong , grow and manage the environmental consultancy business in Hong Kong and across the Southeast Asia (SEA) Division ( division’) by :

  • Developing and implementing the environmental consultancy strategic and business plans
  • Undertaking business development activities, including developing and maintaining key client relationships
  • Ensuring that environmental projects are delivered within budget, expected quality and timeframe, working with Regional Managers and other resources within the division
  • Working with Regional Managers and other resources to win new work
  • Acting as Project Manager of major projects to facilitate their successful delivery leading to client satisfaction
  • Contributing to the success of the division as a member of the Hong Kong Management Committee.
  • Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the divisional strategic and business plan for the Environmental Division
  • Develop business relationships with existing and prospective clients across SEA including government and private sector clients
  • Work on / develop / manage business relating to environmental consultancy
  • Market SMEC’s environmental capability across SEA
  • Develop and nurture strategic alliances with :
  • other consultants
  • other SMEC divisions
  • Liaise with Regional Managers and other divisional staff to ensure appropriate skills are incorporated into proposals and project teams
  • Liaise with Regional Managers and business development teams to : identify and track business opportunities; identify appropriate partners / associations and strategies;
  • and provide inputs in strategy for opportunities

  • Lead the preparation and review of expression of interests and proposals
  • Provide advice to Regional Managers (from a project implementation perspective) to ensure that proposals assume sufficient fees budgets to facilitate the delivery of the projects to a minimum acceptable standard (including provisions for quality assurance, technical audits and peer reviews throughout project execution)
  • Ensure that project deliverables are reviewed internally at appropriate
  • Ensure that audits are carried out for all eligible projects, and rectification measures are put in place as appropriate
  • Regularly monitor project financial performance against targets and take appropriate actions to maximise project financial results
  • Develop environmental consultancy capability within SEA and act as mentor for local environmental consultants
  • Develop staff skills through training and career initiatives
  • Participate in succession planning and staff planning activities
  • Prepare environmental status reports on a regular basis as specified in the Business Management System (BMS).
  • Key Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience :

  • Bachelor’s and master’s degrees in science / engineering
  • 15+ years of post-qualification experience in environmental consultancy, ideally specialising in :
  • Air Quality Modelling and Assessment
  • Noise Modelling and Assessment
  • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
  • Should be experienced in using FDM, CALINE4, AERMOD, ISCST 3, EMFAC-HK, NoiseMap, etc.
  • Candidates with more experience will be considered for Associate Director. Candidates with less experience will be considered for Principal Consultant.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills
  • Business planning, budgeting and commercial acumen
  • Proven project management and operational skills
  • General understanding of business, organisations and marketing
  • Industry awareness
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a culturally diverse and multi-disciplinary environment
  • Professional delivery and appearance to ensure SMEC image is maintained.
